Solar Recommends 🎬🍿🎧 [September 2023]

Hello, my lovely celestials! πŸ’– How are you doing? Hope everything's alright and your week is going smoothly.

As for me, I'm focusing on the big collab for the rest of this week so that I can finally upload it and move on to the next audios. And you will get an early exclusive sneak peak of that amazing audio, of course πŸ˜‰

In the meantime, I decided to share something with you today. To be completely honest, I don't have that many people in life who'd be genuinely interested in the same things I am. Nobody to share my love for ASMR with, recommend some of my favorite series to watch or discuss podcasts and dive into deeper topics with. So, I thought that it would be cool to try and find that here with you maybe?

I understand that the fact that you admire my content doesn't automatically mean you'd like my recommendations, of course, but I just wanted to share some of the things I like that you might enjoy as well. I hope this small collection of my personal recommendations can be of some help and maybe inspire you a little, or simply make you smile.

------

βœ¨πŸ’ Quote:

"This too shall pass"

I feel like this is my favorite quote of all time. I believe it's of a Persian origin. It always keeps me in check and reminds me of the fact that we should not be too worried about sad moments or unfortunate events in life, because they too shall pass. All while reminding me to cherish happy ones while they last, every win, every time I laugh, moment... because these too shall pass. So, it's a perfect "double-edged" quote that fits any occasion. Really helps when you're feeling down, and I tend to share it with people a lot when trying to cheer them up.

✨🎧 Music:

In the mood for either upbeat or some trippy slower songs this month, here's what I was listening to:

80s 🎢 The Smiths - How Soon Is Now?

90s 🎢 Roxette - Sleeping in My Car

00s 🎢 Sunrise Avenue - Fairytale Gone Bad

10s 🎢 Fun. - We Are Young

20s 🎢 Miley Cyrus ft. Dua Lipa - Prisoner

✨🎞 Movie:

"Ghosted" (2023)

It's a romantic comedy, BUT... please hear me out! First, it's an action movie as well. Second, Ana de Armas. Third, the humor is really good in this one, it's relatable and just very light-hearted, and the movie is not sappy at all. Something like a dorky version "Mr. & Mrs. Smith", which I enjoyed greatly. Highly recommend (and yes, I know it's mostly guys there, still recommend haha).

✨🎬 TV series:

"The Afterparty" (2022) - 2 seasons (and I believe there will be another one soon 😍)

Well, this is an absolute gem of today's post! I'm not a fan of horrors, but I do love some good murder mystery... especially if it's a comedy as well. The story of one afterparty is being told over and over again by all guests, revealing different characters' perspectives of the night. But the coolest thing about this show is that each story is being told as a specific movie genre (thriller, romantic comedy, heist movie, etc). So even though you experience the same events, you get a completely different mood every time, which is hilarious! And they went even further with the second season, not only keeping events within the genre, but a fitting visual style as well (down to the aspect ratio changes to fit the chosen genre/period). I personally had such a wonderful time guessing all of the iconic film eras and possible homages to the greatest filmmakers and visual styles. Both story and execution are great, so I'm proudly recommending this one to watch if you're interested.

βœ¨πŸŽ™ Podcast:

Psychology Expert: How Colours, Your First Name And Your Location Might Be Ruining Your Life!

Pretty optimistic, I know. But in reality, this is a great conversation with Adam Alter, bestselling author and Professor of Marketing. built around a couple of really important topics: how to deal with feeling stuck in life, how our surroundings affect our mood and productivity, how to keep being curious and inspired in life, and so much more. I'm always listening to podcasts while cleaning up around the house or when I'm making my thumbnails 😜 And if you're a fan of podcasts yourself, I'd love to get some recommendations as well btw!

βœ¨πŸ‘‚ ASMR:

ASMR Kitten Massage (Gentle Acupressure, Hypnosis, Gua Sha)

I never even knew it was a thing until recently and omg... this is sooo relaxing and soothing. I was smiling all the way through. Now I can't look at my cats without thinking of cat ASMR haha (I'm pretty sure they will never be able to keep this calm and still though πŸ™ˆ)

βœ¨βœ”οΈ Habit:

Clean your workspace! 🧹

I've been feeling a bit overwhelmed lately about the crazy number of projects and ideas I've got going on. All of them needing attention and just one small me here to complete them. At times I end up spending too many hours at my desk to the point where I start resenting the space. And this is where this habit comes into play. I clean up the desk every once in a while, since I basically live here for the most part and it's inevitable to leave one or two (or ten) unauthorized objects there. However, now when I start working on a new audio, I made it a rule to wipe everything off and keep the space as clean as possible. As in, my version of a clean slate to invite clear thinking and some good productive time. This is such a simple and common thing to do, but we tend to ignore that sometimes. And our space can affect our mood greatly, and this is scientifically proven actually (by the way, I think this was mentioned in that podcast I listed above, so you should totally listen to it if you want to know more about that!)

✨πŸ€ͺ Fun:

@shangerdanger

Shane lives somewhere in Hawaii by the ocean, I believe, and his mission is to clean it. He's also recording really fun shorts in the process (like this one, for example). I love the lighthearted nature of his videos and the calming energy of that underwater world. And Brittany's cameos are totally awakening my desire to start actively working out again haha πŸ‘€ But be careful, his videos are really fun and addictive, so check them out only if you don't have any urgent projects that you need to finish asap.

------

Obviously, these are just things that I like, and if for some reason you don’t like them too... that’s absolutely okay. We're all different and it's beautiful πŸ’– If you feel like checking any of those out and talking to me about it, I'd love that, really. But you don't even have to discuss those with me or anyone else at all. Even the fact that you can find something here that might interest you is more than enough for me to make it worth sharing πŸ«‚

If you feel like recommending something you've recently found/watched/listened to, please feel free to do that in the comments below. I'd love to check it out if you do!

Love,

I would say it’s a heavy topic and the overall gravity can be hard to take. But with anything from in history with a heavy topic as such, the men and women who lived it was always worse. I’d say I’d you feel up to it, watch it! But keep an open mind that it keep the memory of those who sacrificed everything, alive.

Reimei_13B

Love this quote as well! Although I have a tendency to miss some really nice opportunities sometimes. Guess this wisdom comes with time haha (or I hope so!) I also heard about β€œChernobyl” but was hesitant to give it a chance tbh since I was worried it'd be quite depressing. But since there are only 5 episodes, maybe it's worth giving it a try then πŸ˜‡

S

Ohhh wow, thanks for sharing such an extensive list with all of us here as well! This is amazing 😍 I'd love to check out your music and movie picks at the very least, when I got time that is πŸ™Œ Ughhh... "Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice"... This one is extra hard, I couldn't even complete the first mission where you need to save that boy and just gave up after a couple of days πŸ™ˆ Such a shame, because I really loved the overall feel and that gameplay, and was looking for some nice game replacement after my DMC obsession πŸ™ƒ And good for you for making an effort to run every single day! This is a great habit that will probably be my next goal tbh. It was truly such a fun read, and the fact that you did write all of this made me smile πŸ™πŸ«‚ Thank you so much for sharing!

My favorite song lately, je ne sais pas - lous and the yakuza

Moh

My favorite quote has always been β€œStrike while the iron is hot”. My dad would say it to me all the time and it’s carried me to where I am today. When an opportunity presents itself and the timing seems right, take it! You might not get another chance to do it again! As for a show. I watched the HBO mini series called β€œChernobyl” and it was fantastic! Some history, drama and suspense all wrapped into one 5 episode long show. Historically it lined up really really well and was just gripping from start to end.

Hm. Ok I can work with this. Quote: "The purpose of a storyteller is not to tell you how to think, but to give you questions to think upon." This is from The Way of Kings by Brandon Sanderson, probably my favorite piece of fiction. And the book is full of stuff like this but I didn't want to go nuts so I just went with the one quote there. I think it's largely self explanatory, we forget sometimes that not all questions are going to have easy answers, and that doesn't make them any less worthy of thought. Quite the contrary, in my experience. I sometimes wonder if this is an intentional 'death of the author' line, the author trying to make it clear that the ultimate onus for what to take from a story lies with the reader, not the author. Music: Ok I kind of suck at music, but looking back at the past week or so; "Back at the Funny Farm" by Motorhead. They're a very heavy band in general but this one has a lot of energy to it and it's one I really like, especially when driving. And I find the lyrics hilarious, though I am a documented weirdo. "Tank" by the Seatbelts, Yoko Kanno. Ok this is actually the main theme to an anime called Cowboy Bebop. I'm not really an anime fan, but this show hits so many buttons that it being anime was almost irrelevant. Fun fact, the producer Yoko Kanno went and formed her own jazz band, and that's where all the tracks recorded for the show came from. And instrumental jazz is not gonna be everyone's cup of tea, but this one is just fun, lots of energy. ( And my brain's been on a sci fi kick lately, so not surprising this came back ) "Shadows" by Lindsey Stirling In hindsight, a lot of music I wind up listening to tends to be the sort of thing that helps keep my brain moving, but I don't want it to be an active distraction because I have things I need my brain to focus on, be it work, or writing, etc. So a lot of my playlists tend to be ambient music or sounds, or stuff like this, which is a weird mix of violin and dubstep. Movie: Kung Fu Hustle A chinese action comedy film from Stephen Chow, it's a bit of a mix between chinese wuxia films ( think Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, Hero ) and Looney Tunes cartoons. It is gleefully absurd. Solid soundtrack too. TV Series: The Expanse. Six seasons, 2016-2022 first on SyFy then picked up by Amazon. Right, I am bloody awful at following TV shows, and this is another that I had my friends bugging me to check out for years and only recently got around to. It's based on a pretty solid book series. I'm about halfway through the show, but only because I stopped to go read the books instead. If you like science fiction, or just like seeing Shohreh Aghdashloo rip people a new one in every scene she's in, it's a good watch. Habit; Exercise! Ok real talk; I hate exercise. Anyone who says it gets better or you'll feel better if you stick with it, I'm calling schenanigans. BUT, I have it on good authority that exercise is a great way to not die, so I've been trying to be better about doing it regularly. The past few months I've been trying to make sure I run a few miles a day. Work keeps me pretty busy and I mostly work from home these days, so while I don't always remember to take lunch or just eat at my desk while doing other things, I've been trying to make sure I get in a few miles a day. Fun; Any or all of the following games; Dark Souls 1-3, Bloodborne, Sekiro; Shadows Die Twice, Elden Ring and Armored Core 6. So video games are my big medium. If I'm home and not working, I'm most likely either reading or playing a game. And these are some of the best, most thoughtfully constructed games I have ever played in my entire life. I am pointing this out because I avoided all of them for YEARS, based largely on the reputation they had for pretty soul crushing difficulty. And some of the louder fans can be super obnoxious about it. Do not repeat my mistake. If you're at all into video games, these are absolutely worth trying. And while they are difficult, they are not remotely insurmountable the way some people make them out to be. Frankly, if my slow, dumb, ( and occasionally VERY stoned ) ass can beat these games, anyone can. I'll leave it at that because as I've learned; if you like Dark Souls, it's hard to shut up about Dark Souls. Elden Ring is probably the most approachable of the batch, so that's a good starting point. If not that, probably the first Dark Souls remastered. RE: This Too Shall Pass. That's a great saying, and you're 100 percent correct, it is of Persian origin. It's known in the West primarily due to a 19th-century retelling of a Persian fable by the English poet Edward FitzGerald, which I'll drop below, it's super quick. SOLOMON'S SEAL. The Sultan asked Solomon for a Signet motto, that should hold good for Adversity or Prosperity. Solomon gave him, "THIS ALSO SHALL PASS AWAY." Full disclosure, other than the Smiths, I haven't listened to any of your recommendations, ( I'm bad at music I'm sorry ), so I'll have to look those up. I have seen Ghosted and I thought it was fun! Thank you for sharing, this was fun.

Mr.Fabulous

Ohh that's so cool! I'm always kind of nervous about recommending things I like to other people. As in, if they end up not liking it my mind makes it personal somehow haha. I wonder if there are people who don't care what anyone thinks about their taste at all πŸ™ˆ

S

I'm doing really good overall, thank you for asking! Just maybe a bit physically exhausted sometimes from long editing hours (I tend to stay up far too late, especially when the audio seems to be turning out good, I just can't stop myself haha). Other than that, I'm really great. And the response I get after every upload, both here and on YT, it is so enticing and fulfilling, it's like euphoria tbh πŸ™ˆ So I just get right back at my desk and start all over again haha As for Neko girls... well, we always have Monstober for that 😼 I was planning to try out some new characters tbh (new monster girls I haven't tried voicing before), but I think I can always make room for a Neko girl comeback. If not on YT, it's totally possible here! 😌

S

so i've listened to the songs you've listed and honestly, i kinda like them! i even added some of them to my playlist so i could listen to them in the future oh and since i feel like recommending something, the songs Data Loss (by JKuch and Adam Tell) and Vital (by Hotel Pools) are personal favorites of mine. i'm pretty open when it comes to music so i love any song recommendations from other people

theFurret

On an unrelated note: besides the secret project you mean, how have you and your fur-baby being this past 7-10 days? We don't often hear about your well-being, and could you please let us know sometimes. Maybe it's only because of my mild paranoia, but it would be greatly appreciated to know how you're feeling. And now you've got me thinking about Neko girls, which are absolutely adorable (just like bunny girls). I'd ask for an audio with one this month, but they're not a dominant type of woman (unless you choose a big cat subspecies), so it would be too difficult.

Lachlan Parker

I have seen this movie, yes, but it was looong time ago. So I might actually go and rewatch it sometime soon, thank you! Have watched only the last John Wick movie, and it's "a million and one way to get rid of a person" basically haha, but the fight scenes and music are amazing... and Keanu himself, of course πŸ˜‡

S

Hahaha this is a great one! Iconic as well πŸ‘Œ I always end up crying during that scene btw...

My favorite quote: YOU SHALL NOT PASS!!!

Hanz Andersen

1) even though I'm indifferent to her music, my mother is a Roxette fan. She plays the music in the car all the time. It's not my style, but it's not unpleasant. 2) I love how you misspelled "favourite" to please the silly little Americans. (I don't actually care that much, but I'm in a joking mood despite moving house all week long.) 3) Have you seen the movie Cast Away? It's my all-time favourite movie, which is a little odd because I typically enjoy movies like John Wick (realism and Keanu Reeves) and multiple Jet Li movies (a good blend of eastern and western storytelling). 4) I can discuss virtually any topic, no matter how controversial. So you don't need to hold back with such deep thoughts. I have always enjoyed such deep discussions anyway, even as a kid.

Lachlan Parker

Thank you for always making me smile and being so invested in the things I share/create. This truly means the world to me, Hugo πŸ₯ΉπŸ«‚

I do love the simplicity of "This to shall pass" the gentle reminder that as you say bad times will pass, and that good times can too making it all the more important to cherish them. I'll have to check out these recommendations you've got, and see what I think. I'm not too great at keeping up with music but I do love individual songs so I'd love for more picks (Also a dorky version of Mr and Mrs Smith with Ana de Armas is enough convincing for me πŸ˜‰) May I recommend "Dare" by Stan Bush as an 80's track? Wonderfully energetic and upbeat Kitten Asmr sounds absolutely amazing, just getting to see one get pampered and purring feels like a wonderful way to relax Can confirm, cleaning your workspace, or living space in general does wonders, I just wish I was better at it I can absolutely see why shangerdanger can be alot of fun. I do wonder if Dale the crab will pay him back one day.

C480o0s3

If you're feeling too shy to recommend something "big", just drop the song you've been listening to the most lately 🎧🎢
