Z Review - Telefunken Aqusta

Comments

Not retro....except maybe for an old Flash Gordon movie! Pretty sure I might have seen them 40 years ago there

Better. Not quite as clear as my Audio Technica 50s, but the base is a lot more solid. In fact, it approachs the base from my Klipsch RB-81 II & JBL 4313B combo. I had to crank back the base on my amp with these phones. I'm listening to Baxter, _Fading_ on a loop.

That's not exactly how I would have put it, but yeah, that's what I noticed. I just ordered the Dekoni pads from Audio46. The Hassidim at B&H (Black Hat & Hassid?) have them, but it's a special order, and I've developed an allergy to Amazon....

Thanks.

It can if you use velour pads.

A question: Does replacing the earpads smooth out the reproduction of female voices? These sound overly harsh with the stock pads.

Telefunken began as and still is a German company. There's also an American Telefunken (Telefunken Elektroakustik) and a Swedish Telefunken. It's all about selling the rights to the trademark.

I kind of like how they look: Kind of Art Deco. Certainly not your usual headphones.

The funniest review ever!!

I have not.

The pride of Russia, the American election.

Im getting a pair. Soon.

it plays a little bit in a cloudy bar in terms of high mids but otherwise I think it sounds pretty good in terms of bass and imaging.

I know the telefunken tubes are supposed to be great. BTW Z have you ever tried the Garage 1217 headphone amps? particularly the Sunrise or Ember, they look amazing and made in the US. I am buying a Sunrise this week with an RGB light. http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7407/26696708423_38ea2c3c04_b.jpg

Google "Sennheiser HD1000 Charleston" to see the headphone the look was copied from. They look very different in red & gold than the original black. Apparently in 2010 a tiny Swedish company, Nibosa AB licensed the brand to use on consumer headphones from the real Telefunken. All their phones are made by Fischer Audio (of Russia...so you're right on that) and mfg in China. The real Telefunken makes 1 model of high isolation headphones under the Telefunken Pro brand. (info kudo a Massdrop forum post).
