Thank you. I have a pair of old Klipsch KSB3 which are a two way front ported bookshelf speaker 8" woofer however with their earlier horn tweeter design. They are of a narrow rectangle design. I would mount them similar to how you have your rear surround's using adjustable wall mounts. Being the tweeters are rectangular verses more of a square as the newer tweeter designs, do you think the tweeters would suffer working correctly if the book shelves are on their sides thus the length of the tweeter would be up and down being on their side verses horizontal when placed up right? Though they would be focused to the seating area.

Bigger and that far away would work. The point is to get sound, a lot of sound, coming from behind you and sometimes doing what you suggested here is the only way.

Hard to visualize what you mean. Just moving them further away?

One last thing.. I like your comment" Go Big" that being said I am considering making new rear surrounds with two 6" woofers and a center tweeter like many floor models have today but in the size of book shelves. Do think this would provide a far better rear sound than lets say mounting a pair of book shelves sideways on wall mounts?

I have vaulted ceilings and the walls really don't end to a corner to a back wall as mentioned the deep great room. But I will experiment with your concept to see how it works as per up focusing. I like those coaxial speakers if the up firing would work in my room but I think it won't being the side walls are narrow open up to hallways and alcove to my deck I would get those being they are nice and small and I could put them on some simple wall shelves.

In my Great room I currently have the rear surrounds that are right behind the listening area like right behind the chairs about 3' foot behind and about 7' from the floor and tilting toward the center of the room which is great if you sit in the center of the room, LOL! That being said, I never felt I was getting the correct focus for surround or even for 5 channel stereo which I occasionally use. I am thinking of moving them another 6' back on a drop ceiling wall from the Vault stopping about 9' off the floor and mount them there focusing back towards the listening area. Thoughts?

Back again and am looking to update my current surround sound configuration. I like the idea of placing the speakers along the walls facing up and utilizing the wall and ceiling for deflection! I am not sure how it will work for my room but I will demo with my old Mission 700 speakers which have been used for rear surrounds for decades. LOL. I do have another question which I will post below.

Great thank you! Being I have vaulted ceilings I am thinking of making some speaker enclosures for Atmos ceiling and front height or using some old speakers I already have for rears and height fronts just with mounts to suffice.

Not worth the price tag. I talk about it in this video and actually get it wrong they are $700 EACH. Rears don't need that sort of money spent on them and not with this particular design.

I posted this on your Ohm 2000 review but being you have or had the micro walsh I was curious what you thought of them?

Yeah the Vaulted ceilings are a challenge. I have a AVR that produces Dolby Atmos when available and am using Dayton Audio 6" 15' angled ceiling speakers. I will have to use a db meter and measuring to get them dialed in as best as I can considering the sloping ceiling will be un even height. Rear Speakers are going to be moved from their current location behind the heads of the main seating area and elevated way too high to a back wall with better focus about 8' behind the seats. Keeping the size of the main drivers at 6".

Vaulted ceilings make this much more unpredictable. This is something you would have to try out in different conditions and positions and assess on your own.

Well explained video thank you! I have a question regarding if I should have both rear speakers or just the side speakers for surround. I do like your concept of placing a speaker next to the wall up firing. I would like to send you a photo of my room and get a recommendation on how you would setup the rear and side speakers. The reason is this room is not a rectangle it is a great room with vaulted ceilings and lots of un-even wall space. Thanks for getting back to me. Gary K.

Wish i saw this before i bought svs ultras for 5.1 all around.

Thank you, I just installed some old Sonance in wall for side surround, so consider these for back surround only, then I saw SVS is rolling out some wireless speaker adapter so now wondering if I should get powered speaker

Well they are a nice shape. I'd use them for BACK channels but sides I'd try doing this lay-down method with them before I committed to actually wall mounting them.

Emotiva BasX SAT is on sale, are they good for rare surround?
