You know, it used to be that when some of my out-of-state relatives would visit here in Southern California, the thing they would look forward to the most was a burger from In n' Out . If you've never heard of In 'n Out, you should know that they basically have their own cult following. Lines for In 'n Out drivethroughs are notorious for being long, winding down the street and disrupting the neighboring businesses, but patrons are willing to wait in these lines. And I do think In 'n Out burgers are pretty damn good. But In 'n Out has grown so much that you can now get them in Arizona, Oregon, Utah, Nevada, and Texas. So my relatives no longer have to wait until they get to Southern California to get their In 'n Out burger.
But what is still unique to the Los Angeles/Orange County area is Zankou Chicken. Next time you are in Southern California make sure you stop to get a rotisserie chicken from Zankou. It comes with a special garlic sauce and pita bread and has this incredibly savory, crispy skin that I swear to god I would kill a man for right now. Unfortunately, it's after 11 p.m. here and Zankou closed at 10 p.m., so I'm SOL until tomorrow. Unless I can find someone who already bought some and hasn't eaten it yet. In which case I will kill them and take their chicken, probably leaving DNA behind in the process which will eventually lead to my capture and conviction and thereby leaving me unable to finish the game. All over a savory rotisserie chicken.
I swear to god I'm not drunk. I just really want some Zankou chicken.

I’m old guy - and so will Always say the quality of things nowadays has gone to shit. That said, there is no doubt the little smashed burgers I&O stuffs into the foil pouchs in Texas are Crap compared to what we ate in Cali

2024-04-14 18:32:49 +0000 UTCOut of curiosity, is the Texas quality of In n Out burgers still maintained from when they were just a small chain? My uncle worked for the original McDonald's in Downey many, many years ago and he says the current burgers aren't recognizable. Sometimes expansion leads to dilution of quality.

But the chicken, with garlic and pita, wow. My mouth is already watering and it is breakfast time here in NoCal. We do not have Zankou here but right now I am almost willing to drive 370 miles south to get some 😛.

2024-04-14 11:02:20 +0000 UTCLived eight years in SoCal and so True about In&Out burgers - now so Glad, they are in me native Texas! Never had that chicken yet, but I like it Spicy. Now your alarm, go get that chicken - then back to render grindstone! lol
