From the Desk of Dr Toni Lodge #030

Welcome to blog THIRTY! Apologies for the lack of blogs of late, but we’re back better than ever baby!!!

I think I’m gonna change it up a bit and begin our A,Blog,C’s! OR AlphaBLOGical, I haven’t decided.

Each week a new letter, and a new blog to match. The letter might spur an idea or topic or question and then we can all chat! I think I’ll try and challenge myself to write about the first word that comes to mind which might be a bit odd, but we’re all a bit odd, aren’t we?

Without further ado - let’s begin with A!

A… A…

Arachnophobia.

Being an Aussie I get questions allll the time from people on Insta or here in Patreon about spiders in Australia. Actually we always get post requests in our Facebook group for crazy spider or shark videos and the caption is aaaaalways IS THIS WHAT AUSTRALIA IS ACTUALLY LIKE?!

To be honest it’s actually not that fucked. I mean yeah there ARE a lot of spiders and spooky creatures but a bit like I can’t reconcile in my brain how Egypt isn’t only Pyramids - it’s not all we have. (Just on the Pyramids thing, was anyone else shocked to learn that the Pyramids are like, right next to the city? I imagined it was just so remote?)

Weird right?!

Anyway - Egypt aside… Just like that, we don’t all ride Kangaroos to school and we don’t eat Emu for dinner. We also DON’T have Outback Steakhouse here. I just looked at the menu and it also isn’t especially Australian.

The spider thing is kinda scary at times though, as cool as I’m seeming about it, I walked through a spiderweb the other day while I was in Alice Springs and almost popped my tampon out.

I’ve only actually been bitten by a spider once, and it was inside my sports bra that had been outside on the washing line. I grabbed my washing off the line and chucked it on to go to the gym, and got snipped by the little bastard on my side. I ripped my bra off and it fell to the floor and scurried away.

I called my Dad and he took me to the hospital. It was very anticlimactic though - they gave me an antihistamine and sent me home and I lived to tell the tale.

Do yourself a favour though and DON’T Google Funnel Web Spiders. Blegh!

Hope you loved our first edition of the A,Blog,C’s. Back next week!

Fuckin’ love ya
