I must say, I never thought I’d live to see the day that I’d have a puppy whose announcement goes VA-VA-VA-VIIIIRAL! But wow, so so exciting and I’m so happy to share the news with everyone. In case you’ve been living under a rock for the last 6 hours or so - Taubs and I got a dog!!
This is my gorgeous little Poochini Mushroom Pippa!
Pippa (the artist formerly known as Melody) has just joined our family and has settled in so perfectly. She’s such a little chiller and is loving sniffing around the house and having free-reign over her turf.
The thing I want to talk about though is how well Taubs has taken to being a paw-rent!
This morning after only having Pip for a couple of days, we had to take her in to get Spayed. Because of the situation we rehomed her from, she hadn’t been fixed by her previous owner due to the plan they had for our Pippy Girl. So it meant we had to do it quite quickly before she matured, which I’m told makes spaying a bit more complicated and obviously increases the risk.
We drove Pip down to the vet and signed all the paperwork, and as the vet team (who are absolutely FANTASTIC by the way) took her away, Taubs squeezed my hand and I looked at him and both of us were glassy eyed saying goodbye to our smoochy girl.
It was the most OVERWHELMING feeling I think I’ve ever felt! I was just so protective and just felt so guilty about her having to go through surgery, because we can’t even explain to her that it’s the right choice?! Or that it will prevent other pain through her life? Ahhh, how do people do this?!
The biggest thing was when the vet took Pippa, she said ‘say bye to Mum and Dad Pippa!’ and I just got a rush of blood to the ovaries.
But also a little bit to the tingly gine.
The second we came home with Pip, Taubs referred to me as Mum. Like, ‘go to Mum’ or ‘what’s Mum got?!’ And in a totally-not-weird way, it made me really hot for him?
I’d like to express right now that we are not a couple who are calling each other Mummy and Daddy in a sexual way or anything, but it’s like… The way I love Taubs feels as though it’s changed? Watching him look after Pippa and us making parenting choices about training and food and sleeping and everything - it's like the emotional intimacy is turning me on?
DOES THIS MAKE SENSE TO ANYONE ELSE? I REALLY HOPE IT DOES - BECAUSE I AM BEING VERY VULNERABLE RIGHT NOW.
I’d love your thoughts on this!
Also: Normal or Nah - calling yourself Mum and Dad for your pets?! And Grandma and Grandad for your parents? Would love to know whether you defaulted into parent mode, or if you think that’s weird as fuck. We’re gonna chat about it on the pod next Tuesday!!!
Love you so much (but not as much as I love Pippa!)
