Monsters are a one-time cost. Loot is not. Basically, if it gets taken out of the dungeon, it will take AP to replace it. The monsters respawn so they are a one-time cost. Loot is generated and then taken out, so each item costs Dunstan AP.
Dunstan gets AP in five ways.
- Killing creatures in the Overworld (outside the dungeon)
- Converting overworld assets into dungeon assets (there is a harsh penalty)
- Fame. (Each new person who learns of his dungeon grants him a one-time sum of 1 AP)
- Killing Delvers. 10 AP times their level
- Having delvers visit. 1 AP times their level.
Thus, Connell (a fourth-stage fighter) gave Dunstan 44 AP where as Nick Adil (a sixth-stage fighter) gave Dunstan only 6 AP. In the short term, kills are much better since they offer more AP but long term that might not be the case. However, in the long term, loot might prove a problem for Dunstan as well since if the adventurers take out more AP than they contribute he will fall into a deficit (not much of a problem now that the fame is pouring in but that might change once everyone has heard of the Vast Heaven Legacy).
Escape tokens further complicate this because each one costs 3 AP (times the tier of the dungeon) to create. If Nick used one then Dunstan would have only gotten a profit of 3 AP from his visit.1 AP if it was Connell. Plus, no big kill bonus. This means our young Palace Master is incentivised to keep their sales low.
Loot follows simple rules.
- Common-grade, mundane resources cost 1 AP per set amount. eg. A hundred gold coins. A set of porcelain plates, etc
- Uncommon-grade, mundane resources cost 3 AP. These tend to be artistic in nature. eg. A beautiful painting of a warrior triumphant on a battlefield. A finely carved sculpture. (a crude/poor one would be of common-grade)
- Rare grade (the highest grade for mundanes) cost 5 AP
- Magical resources follow the same rules and have a base cost of 2 AP. They do not come as a set and encompass every grade of rarity. eg. Dunstan's uncommon-grade magical apricot costs 2 x 2 AP = 4 AP whereas a bushel of mundane apricots would have only cost him 1 AP (a terrible impulse buy if you ask me but we've all been there
Equipment and potions have a scaling cost depending on rarity.
- Commons cost 1 AP
- Uncommons cost 2.5 AP
- Rares cost 6 AP
- Epics cost 10 AP
- Legendaries (being better than anything in their tier) cost 15 AP
A/N: See if you can figure out how much bank Dunstan made off Adil's shields.
