Taxes
Added 2020-05-29 16:58:48 +0000 UTCAs a new policy, Patreon is going to have to charge sales tax on its' services in certain areas going forwards. This will vary depending on where you are, but I've customised my settings so that hopefully my backers will not be taxed on the whole amount they give (since a lot of it would not normally be taxed). I've tried to be honest and do this correctly so as not to break any laws, but hopefully as a result you won't see your bill go up too much due to tax. Hopefully it'll be a matter of a small % tax added onto a small % of your pledge amount.
As I haven't raised my rates since I started doing this 5 years ago, hopefully the tax won't be too tough to handle (since in real terms my reward tiers have become cheaper over the years due to inflation).
Anyway-I thought I should let you all know. I'm sure Patreon will tell you soon and will be able to go into more details about what this will mean to you. As I said, the additional amount you pay should be very small and as it's set depending on your location (rather than mine) those taxes will go to help fund services and infrastructure where you live-so there is that :)
