September 14th UPDATE!
Added 2022-09-14 14:11:05 +0000 UTCI'm not sure if this is something you folks would like or not, but I thought about maybe doing weekly or bi-weekly updates in here!
Just to touch base on what I'm currently working on, things that are coming up, and maybe a dash of my personal life!
Let me know what you think and if you totes hate it, I don't have to continue!
I'll dive right into it!
As you can see from my last post, the cover for A Monster Axe-Mas, my contribution to the Christmas Monster anthology has been finalized! I just got edits back from my editor, and will work through those in the next week. I'm actually really stoked about having a project finished WAY before deadline. I guess that's what happens when other people rely on my punctuality haha! I dont want to be the reason there's a hold up or snag in this anthology.
I'll be starting the plot for my anti-hero anthology next, and writing it soon. I'm waiting on the cover to be finalized on that one, but I've already shared the title with you in here!
Another exciting thing--I just hit the "approve" button on the Broken Like You audiobook! So sometime in the next 10-9080498508 days, Audible will approve the audiobook for sale! (They say 10 business days, but UV I waited like 3 weeks, and I've heard other authors say they waited MONTHS, so I'm not holding my breath, haha!) They also don't tell us when it will happen, so it's legit just like HEY THE AUDIOBOOK IS LIVE hahah! CHAOTIC.
Other bookish news but on the business side: I started working with a publicist! I actually worked with one person for about a month but it wasn't a good fit so I switched to another person within the company, and so far, things have been going well. I'm curious and excited to see if this helps run this ship a bit smoother!
Publishing books isn't just writing them--and the more I do, the more I realize, that might not even be the hardest part. There's so much that does into this business. Lots of communication with various people, vetting companies for things like cover design, graphic design, editing, marketing, advertising, promotion things, etc. Then tons of market research for book titles, trending tropes and genres and covers. Figuring out the best strategy with pricing, releases, picking dates and arranging all sorts of things. Plus the social media presence (I'm sure you see me posting on TT all the time), interacting with readers, staying relevant and in front of readers, listening and seeing what they want. Then there's the editing and polishing of books and formatting, and background stuff like uploading to retailers, getting advanced copies sent out, following up with ARC readers, website updates, cross-promo with other authors, release parties, giveaways, newsletters, book keeping, assessing data to see whats working and what isn't. It's a constant whirlwind of 'to-do's' that never ends. Oh, and the writing of the books! :P
Honestly though, with my obsessive and ambitious mind, I wouldn't have it any other way. As much as it stresses me out, it's also the calm to my soul that I need to make life worth living. I don't think I could stop this crazy train if I tried.
My brain is already three-ten projects ahead and I'm frantically trying to reel it back in to get the current projects done!
It's exciting and chaotic and I love it!
Anyway, I think that's enough for today! I don't always intend on these being super long, but I figured with the short intro to what this was about, it might be a little lengthy!
I have a few more tasks to do before I close my computer screen and head out to the beach! I'm in Florida until Saturday with my mom and her husband (I'm kid-free this vacation week and it's WEIRD.)
Until next time,
xx
