The Phetasy Wannabe Writers Tribe

Since everyone is all about tribes these days, I thought I would start one for anyone and everyone interested in doing something more than just spouting a bunch of nonsense on social media. Now we can spout a bunch of nonsense in our computers and journals!

In an effort to bust through this wall of writer’s block that is hindering my ability to be effective, staring March 1st, I’m committing to doing 365 days of writing prompts and I invite you all to join my tribe of wannabe writers

Maybe you want to start writing. Maybe you’re a professional writer and you’re feeling stuck. Maybe you want to belong to something that isn’t a clusterfuck of identity politics and feels grounded more in creation rather than destruction. Maybe you’re tired of writing about politics and want to write about birds, I don’t fucking know. All I know is that I need to do something about my own inertia and I need a group to hold me accountable.

I’m making this available to anyone subscribing at the $5 level and up as it’s more important to me that people can participate than anything else. Honestly the only reason I’m charging to be a member of this tribe is that I know it’s an easy way to keep out the haters, the trolls, the riff raff and the Nazis. If you hate me enough to spend money on me just to attack me, God bless you. Capitalism always wins.

If you’re an anti-Patreon person, I’m also on Subscribe Star (https://www.subscribestar.com/phetasy) and will post the prompts (and my writing on them) there as well.

I have a book with 365 prompts and also some other books with great topics and I’ll be taking suggestions from the group. The only rule is that I sit down with a timer for 15 minutes every morning first thing and write on the daily prompt. If I go longer, great, but the 15 minutes is mandatory.

If you are partaking, you can share your writing with the group or you can write it in your journal or you can just sign up and observe whatever nonsense flows out of my brain first thing in the morning. I’m sure we will do some google chat type stuff once we get going and I learn how to use the internet—but right now the point is keeping this as simple as possible and getting into a rhythm and supporting each other.

When I am asked what advice I have for writers it’s always the same thing, “Writers write. No matter what. Every day. No matter how they feel.” That was true for me for decades. The past two months I can’t get my head out of my ass or out of my own way and I’m going crazy.

This idea was born out of my desire to take my own damn advice and sheer desperation.

I’m excited about this! So if you’re gonna join us, wait to sign up until March 1st for billing cycle purposes. And get ready because together we aren’t gonna save the world, but we might save what’s left of our sanity.

At the very least, we are gonna have fun.
