CH20 - Tartered Dragon

Hello all, apologies about the delay, please see the next chap!

Comments

For real? so at a certain point in their lifetime a dragon would have scales that would have been impenetrable but if so why doesn't the Targeryans use their scales shed or otherwise to make armor?

Master Zen

I don't think scorpion bolts can pierce dragon scale, at least not once the dragon is past the twenty years old mark. Jaehaerys, Aemon and Baelon took down and entire Dornish Fleet which was completely armed witha lot of scorpions bolts to take down dragons but they were destroyed in a single day by Vermithor, Caraxes and Vhagar. The TV show makes it looks like scorpion bolts can kill dragons but that only works on really young dragons once a dragon passes the 30 decade mark, it is ineffective unless they can get a lucky shot by shooting them through the dragon's eye, like what happened with Meraxes, that was a one in a million lucky shot. Aegon and Visenya then spent a year burning Dorne to the ground on Balerion and Vhagar and they were never shot down. Like Aegon said in a previous chapter, once a dragon passes 100 years old, it is near invincible unless up against another dragon.

Sukhraj Singh

No, I'm referring to those big contraption that shoots out spear sized bolts not any regular crossbow. Saw a documentari about those and if I recall correctly they can shoot over a 1 km distance and apperantly they're strong enough to puncture into solid stone walls.

Master Zen

Technically it doesn’t need ench arm, dragon scale is already supposed to be really tough idc about the show, the only way an iron arrow would cause anything other than a flesh wound is if the dragon is in a head on dive, then death honestly imo.

Robolo42

Steam punk is something like wgat I'm going for by the time of AGOT. The armour for Misaragorn is finished just not worn yet. It won't be enchanted but it is the first generation of dragon armour ;)

Mosef

Yes, I'll make a post with a few things later today. Will include the map

Mosef

A fantastic chapter had no idea at first but in hindsight should have been obvious that they were talking about steam engines, will Elamaerys be somewhat steampunk esque ? that would be an interesting sight. I also really liked Daemon's interaction with Royce it gave us a different perspective which was refreshing to see especially with the slaves situation, that not all were satisfied with the arrangement made by Aegon. I wonder when Aegon comes back for war will he be able to procure armor for Misragon? it has been mentioned that the idea was scrapped due to it being infeasible but with the great strides in advancement they've made is it still not possible? it certainly would be a jaw dropping scene to see an enchanted armor clad dragon swooping from the sky and casually shrugging of a scorpion bolt as if it was but an annoyance. It certainly would be a majestic entrance upon meeting his family in kings landing leaving a lasting first impression of their mysterious uncle on his nephew and niece.

Master Zen

Question mate, is there a full map you are planning on using? Not for the west but the east.

Robolo42

The Myrish are not forgotten ;]]]]]]]

Mosef

As much as the West interests Corlys he's pretty old by this era. I don't think Rhaenys would allow him to go so easily. But he'll definitely try something at least!

Mosef

People definitely know about the West by the time of Aegon's departure but more will know pretty much now. They won't know the particularities and that is something that is definitely under Elamaerys' control.

Mosef

The Ghiscari POV was important imo because it's easy to make them like a piece to be moved but showing that these people are, well, people with their own desires and doubts and thoughts amidst all of the plans Aegon has for them, well...it makes for a better story imo. Just as him having to juggle that particular problem of people (who know they have value) feeling used in the coming future will be interesting. The little guys can hurt you as much as the big guys!

Mosef

Yes, Aegon wants to maximise and hord as much knowledge for Elamaerys as possible and a lot of his actions for the next 2-4 years outside of Elamaerys will be exactly for that purpose. Killing those Alchemists was only the beginning really.

Mosef

The hook pipe thing is an ancient greek contraption that turns as the water steams within the cauldron and lets out the steam through the pipes. It's kinda credited as the first instance of steam engines.

Mosef

Dw about the long reviews! Honestly i really REALLY love the reviews. Its engaging and I do wish more people did it!

Mosef

The coming war is with slavers bay. Myr is misdirection in case people leak the news. The men are remaining in corinth along with MΔ«saragorn. Aegon will be back in like 7-9 months

Mosef

Haha. I can also def see him like 'he learnt all of that from me! The love of the sea, exploration, everything!'

Mosef

Good chapter as always. Its nice to get an insight into the relationship between Rhea, Daemon and Baelon. Despite the fact that both Daemon and Rhea despise each other, they at the very least love their son Baelon immensely and the fact that Baelon is his flesh and blood, makes him the most important person in the word to Daemon, even if it was Rhea who birthed him. I'm glad that Rhea and Yobert decided to have Baelon believe that despite Daemon not being at Runestone, he did love Baelon immensely which as it turns out was the absolute truth and given that Daemon has now decided to stay at Runestone permanently and take an active role in raising his son, I hope that Daemon and Baelon will bond with each other and have a very good and strong father and son relationship. Like I said before I am a Daemon fan and I really do want him to have a healthy, strong and good relationship with his son. I really want Baelon to know that despite being a very flawed man, Daemon loves him dearly and would burn the world if anything ever happened to him. I am curious to know who exactly was behind the attack on Baelon and Rhea, but I'm guessing you will reveal it to us in time. Back on Corinth, it looks like Aegon and his alchemist have unintentionally discovered steam energy. Could you please explain to me what the machine Aegon had the blacksmiths build was, the one with the hooked pipes??? I am not that knowledgeable of steam engine and its history, so please forgive my ignorance. But yeah, discovering steam energy and expermienting on how to but it to use is a big and major dicovery for Aegon and his people. It will definitely help him to build Elamaerys into a great and powerful nation, especially since I get the feeling that Aegon plans to hog the knowledge and keep it from the rest of the known world so that he and his nation will become more technologically powerful than the rest, that is on top of his research into magic and what might yet be discovered. I liked the insight on the p.o.v. of the freed Ghiscari slaves that Aegon plans to have take control of slaver's bay, how they to would rather go to Elamaerys than stay back in Essos. Aegon might have to deal with the issue of not all of them will want to govern Slaver's Bay and will rather want to go to Elamaerys with him to build a new life. The final part of the chapter was also good, it looks like Aegon and his family have left Corinth and are heading to their new homeland. I have to say I also feel very bittersweet, but I suppose that was always going to be the case given that Corinth has been their home for nearly a decade and where they basically started their enterprise at forging a nation. I have no doubt that on Elamaerys there will at least be one city that will be named Corinth to honor where they came from. The news of Aegon and his people leaving Corint will definitely spread soon, eventhough not many know where exactly he is going and even those who do, have no idea where Elamaerys is let alone how to navigate to get there. Aegon will no doubt only allow that knowledge to spread once his has solidified his position and make it known at the lands West of the Sunset Sea belongs to him and his branch of House Targaryen alone. I guess Corlys will be too late to come to Corinth because Aegon has just left and if he does come he will have to wait for a long while before Aegon returns. Plus when Aegon returns it will be to go to war at Slaver's Bay as a way to make an example to everyone what will happen if they ever attack. Still though, I have to ask, will Aegon ever exact revenge on Myr for hiring Saan attacking his ships which lead to a number of his people becoming enslaved? Looking forward to the next chapter. Sorry for the overly long review.

Sukhraj Singh

I thought the Mc was going go to war with Mry or Myr before he left becuase ... where is he going to station his men before the war starts?

Sefa Baah
