WIP - TnA Tuesday: Private Wonder Cosplay

I'd like to introduce Diana Andreas Prints, or Andy to her closest friends and family, former heavyweight boxer and avid comic-book reader.
Growing up she wanted so badly to be an adored hero, someone who could protect her family, especially her younger cousins and make a difference in the world, but was constantly teased for her weight and naturally broad frame. She was so soft and fat, how could she ever kick anybody's butt?
Fortunately the 90s provided her with a wide range of sized heroes (male ones at least), so she was not dissuaded from her goals, vowing to be the biggest, baddest ass-kicker in the Country. Inspired by her late uncle (his death was ruled a suicide but the family has never been convinced of this - he wasn't always the most upright citizen but he took good care of his family no matter what it took), and fueled by teenage hormones & angst she took to boxing with a savage fervor; it landed her in trouble a few times but it resulted in a reputation that brought butts to seats and she was soon a crowd favourite in local tournaments.
Eventually a head and neck injury caused her to take a year off. All but housebound, partially recommended, partially self-imposed, she distracted herself by rereading her old comic book collections, as well as some newer ones her cousins were reading. She found herself enjoying her 90s comics less than she remembered; had they always been this lacking in substance? A lot of yelling, shooting, screaming and punching over avoidable or overblown conflicts. The simple world of X-TREEM Guns, excess pouches and a lack of emotion outside of anger and sometimes angry lust no longer appealed - no longer distracted her from troubling thoughts and emotions.
Desperate for new distractions she latched onto titles she'd never bothered reading before, one of them being Wonder Woman. Initially expecting more crying over orphans and romances with Superman, Andy found herself surprised at the complex emotions and motivations Diana of Themyscira was allowed to have, how yes, she could punch her problems away, but only if talking didn't work first. She learned more from her Wonder Woman loving cousin, who was more than happy to answer any questions over plot-holes, differences in eras and what happened in missing issues, eventually doing her own internet research when she was reminded Google exists.
She kept dreaming of Amazons, these women fighters whose pasts had been rewritten and reshaped, how Diana herself had gone through several iterations and adjustments, remaining strong yet growing more compassionate and nuanced as better and better writers developed her and her stories.
Women who ultimately held to their own standards; supported one another, and didn't care what men thought. It was nice to just enjoy things, but still be tough and not worry about being... macho about it, unless they wanted to be.
Once her injuries healed up, she decided not to return to boxing; she was tired of being punched in the head and doing the same to others. She worked with her cousin at their Deli, grateful to have a job after being rendered useless for so long. Eventually, her youngest cousin came out of the closet... most of the family were not entirely surprised since they were always an very out-spoken ally who mooned over their same-sex friends more often than not. Diana was filled with concern and started finding more and more excuses to accompany her cousin, to make sure they always had protection. This resulted in her making many new friends within the LGBT community, as well as learning more about herself in the process.
One day, years later, she was discussing cosplaying the next Pride Event with some friends, and was wondering who she could possibly dress up as. Her partner pointed out she should be Wonder Woman, after all, she liked her enough to take on her name.
A scoff, a snort and a snide muttering from a stranger about her being too husky to ever be Wonder Woman sent an old familiar shiver down her spine.
Her heft had not prevented her from being a kick-ass fighter before, why would it stop her now?
Her partner helped her put the outfit together, and made the cosplay suggestion a little more selfishly than Diana realised... turns out, they like being compelled to tell the truth...
She never speaks of "Wonder Woman: Amazons Attack!" because it was really awful, in her opinion, and every issue should be burned.
