This week's pin-up is Seth Triggs' Barista, Sascha Buell, who is a secondary character in his current Chakona Universe fan comic.
This is not at all canon to how Sascha serves hir customers, but I'm sure some do dream! Shi does have a tendancy to be so open and welcoming that hir friendliness has been mistaken for flirting more than once; in reality, if shi's actually trying to flirt, shi can be quite bashful and a little awkward. Sascha also has more pride and sense than to do sexy shenanigans at hir food-service establishment.
Sascha Buell is a young 30-something hermaphroditic husky (with some fox ancestory resulting in hir un-husky like markings) Chakonian native who has attained hir dream of opening a Coffee House, where shi can meet and interact with people, and share stories and positive energy. A self identified dreamer, Sascha is aware this could not have been attained without the help of a practical minded business partner; so shi was very careful in choosing who to go into business with. It had to be someone who could communicate with hir and rope in hir more fanciful and less economical ideas, but someone who could listen and contribute to hir brainstorming and fits of excitement.
Roughly half a decade in operation so far, 'The Floor is Java' (formally 'Bean Soup', changed because of product confusion), the establishment has settled into a fluid but steady rhythm, and Sascha is able to share hir passion for caffeinated beverages and the many many methods that exist to brew them, and show off her imaginative culinary creations (more flops than not but always an interesting experience, and the hits tend to stay on the menu for quite a long time).
Although it can get very busy, which is good for business, Sascha does enough earlier morning or later evenings when it tends to be slower, and shi can chat with the customers more easily. Husky genes means shi has plenty of energy to keep up with the long shifts shi tends to give hirself. Even if shi is not technically on the clock, Sascha will often just hang out and mingle (and does have a small tendancy to be a Helicopter-Manager until shi's sure any new employee aren't going to burn the milk or coffee since shi has a very specific process and level of quality in place).
'The Floor is Java' hosts bookclubs and Open Mic Nights, and is available for other gatherings; even private parties or catering can be arranged with enough forward planning.
Even if Sascha is at home, shi's still nearby in case anyone needs anything. On the off-chance shi is actually off and away, shi is probably at some kind of social gathering, or spending quality time with her young daughter Shaun, who is almost as old as the business itself. Although completely unplanned, Sascha does what shi can to be a good father, and takes hir responsibilities very seriously, especially if Shaun is ever left in hir care for a day or more. Sascha and Shaun's mother are on good terms, even though they had drifted apart after their short, but intensely fun, fling. They had known each other well enough before the fling, and have continued to be good to each other and generally on the same wave-length. Some wonder why they don't just move in together, but Sascha at least will shrug and cheekily say they wouldn't get much done outside of the bedroom if they did; and that's bad parenting. Truth be told, they understand Sascha's love and commitment to the coffee shop would be disrupted trying to include someone who isn't as enthused by the scene and they're just happy Sascha is able to put as much love and attention towards their daughter. Sascha had been excitable about coffee and the prospect of opening a cafe during the fling, and has somehow managed to become even more excited about it since it became a reality. Thanks to hir customers, shi is able to disperse this excitement into managable chunks.
Sascha is also an excellent listener and is perfectly capable of speaking on other topics, one just needs to be careful about bringing up hot beverages around hir, or at least, able to direct the conversation back into another topic. Sascha tries to catch hirself, but doesn't always, so if alerted, will graciously apologize.
Now that 'The Floor is Java' is up and running and doing quite well, Sascha is starting to set hir sights on the world of competitive coffee brewing. Once Shaun starts school, Sascha will likely be experimenting with more techniques and flavours.
