We're back and getting DEEP INTO RIDLEY SCOTT'S Alien lore.... or something, with Prometheus!
Angel, Jenilea & Sean are, let's say, frustrated with Ridley's recapturing of the mantle of his 1979 classic!
Sean (I) really tried to not front load his own impressions in the lead up, but we're right back in our Obama-era dismay!
It's all still here.
Some great design and world building are accompanied by wildly fluctuating character dynamics.
Despite the pedigree of what we're TOLD about the mission and it's crew 90% of our characters display an almost openly hostile level of stupidity.
And even though this was marketed as an Alien prequel, it doesn't really feel that ALIEN to us.

When a giant donut is rolling straight towards you, RUN TO THE FUCKING SIDE!!!!!!! This is the only thing I remember about the movie. That and a waterfall or something. What an awful story. I don't consider it part of the Alien franchise. It's in the box set with Shyamalan's Last Airbender, Alien 3, Alien 4, and Highlander 2.

2025-08-10 23:25:04 +0000 UTCPrometheus is beautiful looking but badly written movie, which is the hallmark of every piece of reboot filth that has been splashed across every screen for last nearly 20 years with few exceptions. If it wasn't tied to the Alien franchise, and the characters weren't universally stupid, it might be fun instead of frustrating to watch. I bought the coffee table art books for Prometheus and Covenant though, the designs and overall visual development is top notch. Alien 3 is better than this, and I feel like it is better than people remember. The core idea of a Xenomorph embryo landing on a prison planet with no outside contacts is really cool set up, it was the tie in to 'Aliens' and the fate of the surviving characters that soured Alien 3 in my opinion. Attempting to not spoil it. I think 'Raised By Wolves' was a far better playground for Ridley's sci-fi ideas than having to rehash Alien. That show deserved more seasons.
