I rub my face as I come out of the nightmare. That's something that I hate about sleeping. It makes it so much harder. I lean up from the bed, and I look towards the window. The son is starting to rise, and it's already really warm. It's going to be really hot today. I get up from the bed and make my way towards the kitchen. I take out another can of food and quickly open it. It's chili again, but I'm not complaining. I should eat whenever I get a chance too. Regardless if I feel hungry or not. I sit down at the kitchen table and begin to eat the chili.
I imagine the family that used to live in this house sitting with me, eating breakfast. They fade from my imagination, and I'm left alone. "This sucks..." I'll admit, the feeling of sleeping in another person's home without their permission feels weird. It's not the first time I've done it, though. This home belonged to a family, one that shared memories and laughed. Here I am, a stranger. Sitting at their table, eating their food, using their stuff. It feels wrong. I finish the chili, and I head to the back door.
I have my backpack and M4 with me. What I'm going to do is look around nearby and see if I can't find a gas station, when and if I do. I'll come back, get the humvee and take it to the gas station. I silently close the door behind me, and I walk over to the fence. I jump from where I'm standing over the fence and onto the neighbor's roof. I'm going to travel from rooftop to rooftop. That way, I can stay off the ground and get a better look around as I move. I run up the slope created by the angle of the roof and leap to the next one.
I make my way towards the part of the town where people buy groceries and get the things they need... Used to need... That's where I'll find what I'm looking for. After a few minutes of jump and climbing, I make it to the more populated part of the town. There are a lot of zombies. They're swarming the town and roads. None of them have noticed me since they have poor eyesight. What overwhelmed the armed forced was the sheer number that horde became. Super-hordes are a better term. All the major cities and states have fallen.
They've been fallen for a very long time now. I look at the zombies roaming the streets, and it pales in comparison to some of the hordes I've seen in my life. The coast of California was one of the hardest places to escape because of the sheer number of undead. I stop thinking about the hordes I've seen, and I look off in many different directions. Hoping to see a gas station, to my luck. I see one relatively close to where I am right now, but if I take my humvee there. I'll attract the horde's attention since it's close enough to hear the loud machine.
That doesn't leave me with many options. I'm not going to take on a zombie horde of thousands. That'd take all day to do, and I'm not going to waste time doing that. I can cause a distraction, though, maybe even kill two birds with one stone. The bandit camp near the town needs to be handled, and these zombies are in the way. I look off in the distance. Jenny told me their camp would be. I can barely see it from where I'm at. I focus my eyes, and I zoom in and get a clear look at it. It's fortified and guarded.
I'll need to sneak in and find a way to create enough noise to draw the horde to their camp. Now what can I use to do that? I look around the street in hopes that something with pop up, and while I do see police cars, their sirens are long dead and out of energy. I focus a little harder, and that's when I see that one of the police cars has several megaphones attached to the top. Likely for announcements when the zombies first made their appearance. If I can find power for those megaphones and start-up that police car. I can take it to the compound with it blaring. Now the question is, how do I fix the police car that's surrounded by a horde of zombies. A second distraction for them. To draw the horde away temporarily.
