Toasting in progress

There's probably not going to be a video for another week at least, because I have decided to start tackling the Video Toaster. Please pray for me.

I have the feeling I'm going to end up producing over four hours of material on this subject spread across several videos, because it is tremendous, it's very hard to say anything at all without qualifying it due to the atrocious state of documentation on this stuff, and even picking a place to start is hard.

If anyone out there has scans of the actual manuals for the Amiga Toaster 3.x software, please get in touch. You'd think they would be online, but I assure you, I've scrubbed the entire internet: it's just people uploading the same two PDFs under different names. Every link that looks right is actually for either 2.0 or 4.0, which are vastly different from the 3.2 I'm running. This is just one of the many reasons that development on this script has been slow - even the simplest questions end up taking hours to answer, and I have to drive to the studio every time I want to test anything.

I'm hoping it'll be worth the wait. Thanks for watching!

so i dug up the manual i have for the toaster. it is the Toaster 4000 version 3 manual. let me know if you need it

it doesnt appear my machine has that connector. I have a flyer and a toaster 4000 in the machine but not that connector. :( can I DM you pics of this thing?

s3v

Hey man - thanks for the offer, and that might be useful depending on which version it is. Do you have the one that goes in a Amiga/Toaster 4000 setup, or the 2000/3000 version?

i also have a toaster flyer if you wanna do a video on that. I'd be happy to loan it to you

Basically because 4.x came out very late as far as I can tell, and 3.x better resembles the experience one would have had in the bulk of the toasters heydey. I don't have the option of using the really early software since I have the second Toaster card; as far as I know 3.x is the oldest software I can run.

If there a reason to use v3 and not v2 or v4? I'm not very familiar with this product and I feel like I'm missing some context.

Perhaps you could reach out to AmigaBill from The Guru Meditation YouTube channel. They've done a lot with the toaster. If anyone can point you to the right docs, I bet AmigaBill can.

I'm looking forward to this one since I've used some dedicated video editing equipment like titlers and DVD-RAM editing decks. I'm not sure how much modern software development you do, but you'll be happy to know that mobile SDKs still call ephemeral messages which render on top of apps "toasts".

When I started my channel I had big ideas about doing stunts like that, but man, it's *amazing* how much worse video production was in those days. Even if my Flyer (nonlinear editing module) was working it would still take me weeks to do what takes two days in Resolve; since it isn't, I'd have to do it with tape, which would take months, so, you'd have to hit me with about a quarter mil to make it worth it. :p

Cathode Ray Dude

I'd pay extra just to see you edit the entire video with a video toaster
