Video: What's My New Favorite Thing?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BOKpkWnrq4w

I've been meaning to make this video for many months, and I'm glad I finally did, but man, I hope it gets across what I intended, because I was really out of it.

I've been recovering from what I think may have been covid for nearly a month, I only just stopped coughing a couple days ago, and speaking above conversational volume has been difficult. My voice gave out over and over while shooting, and the following day I couldn't talk without intense agony. So that was frustrating, to put it mildly.

The whole time I was recording I was incredibly irritable because my neighbors' AC unit developed a bad bearing and was howling. This somehow... didn't make it into the recording at all? I'm astonished, because in the studio, it was deafening. I mean it was coming from all around me and sounded incredibly loud, yet I can't hear it in the resulting video. But I didn't know that then, so the whole time I was recording, I thought it was all wasted effort.

This video is also kinda all over the place with tangents, which isn't the end of the world but - for instance, I cut out about three minutes of outright ranting in the middle that I'm gonna upload at some later date, maybe on my side channel. I wasn't wrong, it was just pretty disruptive to the whole flow - and that's kinda my whole take on this video. I feel like I didn't nail the mood I wanted.

I really like this gadget, but I feel like I spent the whole performance just airing grievances and talking about practicality. Maybe that's just how 2022 is so far. Hope you enjoy it anyway.

CVBS-Recording: What about a unit from the analogue FPF drones like Eachine LCD5802D 5802? (just a random google result, certainly there are better ones) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B2_im76aH-g

an idea for a (nearly) self contained all digital CVBS recording: Some dashcams of the dual-camera type used to run the rear camera as CVBS. from the aera before FHD became standard for rear cameras too. you have to skip the folder of CAM-A and take the files from CAM-B.

PLEASE split the JUST-4LW part into a separate video! I'd like to link that in any diskussion where i get the "JUST...." solution as an answer. 30-60 seconds perhaps... a vertical video shorts version would be great, just as a revenge for the "JUST" posting they gave me.....

YAY !

IT'S THE THING! IT'S THE THUMBNAIL! (slap it on a mouse pad)

Oh, there you are! Can’t make my week any better. Thank you for the post

Seemed fine to me, if you hadn't said anything I wouldn't have been able to tell you were off. I have a very similar Sony camera that I now have to find that CF adapter for...

glad to hear that you are back on track. BTW: for any noises from outside like that AC bearing: RTX voice is such a perfect thing to kill any background sound, even if you have old recordings/footage you like to show but have to fear content-id-strikes: RTX voice butchers it down in a way that no id-match happens.

I'm so glad to know that this thing existed. I have been, slowly and with moderate success, trying to build my own shoulder slung DVR/VTR for my SD cameras, and knowing there are professional products to research and compare my DIY solution to gives me a new bar to clear.

I would have loved to have had this back in my public access days... I was using a mickey mouse setup back then - using winDV to an external hard drive to shuttle shows I did to another studio - and it would drop frames :(. It was a 2 hour live to tape show... so it was that or DV at LP speed which was not great.
