“The honeysuckle was sweet on the breeze as they pushed up the sash that morning. Their hair was lifted gently, as if by a tender lover, and the nightshirt that hung from their shoulders billowed. Already, the air was alive with riotous spring; birds and insects and flowers. The gust came upon an occupied coat-hanger, and set it playfully swinging like a mobile over the bed.
The lark shrugged away the nightshirt, and sleep with it, taking up the coat-hanger and gently sliding the prized garment from its trusty shoulders. A chest binder. A creature of so-called bones and fabric - a supportive embrace wrought by the magic of a sewist’s needle.
Slipping it on overhead, they let it sit over their chest for a moment as they turned before the mirror to catch the slow transformation. They wound, gently, laces about fingers, and coaxed them through eyelets, smooth as oil. Mountains became hillocks, as the garment drew together, and the laces were tied, and its caress was complete.
Their fingers moved with satisfaction over the taught fabric, feeling that it was all still there. Nothing shamed and shrunken - only realigned.”

Good morning Blackbirds!! April’s postcard of the month is here! As said on the WIP, I was inspired to make this piece by the gorgeous historically inspired chest binders made by Laine @dearhyacinthus. If you’re admiring these garments and thinking ”my god, how to acquire”; Good news for you! They are making an announcement about preorders today!
I‘ve loved Laine’s style and creations for quite some time, because I know well the struggle between aesthetic beauty and gender affirmation. For myself, it’s absolutely one great reason for my attraction to historical aesthetics. It’s been a century or two since we last had an archetype of masculinity who concerned himself with beauty and tender decoration of the self. This piece is very much a celebration of that, and I hope to bring many more vain and pretty boys like Hemlock to the MBPS catalogue.
April’s postcard delivery will be received by Crow Collectors and Raven Dandies, so if you are a Jolly Jackdaw who wants this piece, I suggest upgrading now!
