Encyclopaedia Elyden Entries #38 - Pergost

Comments

yes, I recently started using grammarly again after a few years without it so hopefully it will help out.

Nate Mangion

Ah, I see. That makes sense. I checked and it seems Grammarly correctly identifies these incorrect commas. Might be handy. I always find it difficult proofing my own work so you're 100% right there haha

Conrad Staier

in many cases these entries are taken from longer texts and copy/pasted, with parts omitted and I most likely miss out the commas. I'm notoriously bad at proofing my own work, though it's always easier to see mistakes in other peoples writings

Nate Mangion

I agree, with you - those specific instances are incurrect.

Nate Mangion

AGONIST: They operate independently of the Dreaming Night, and form their own group. They are known for their mustard robes, and silent demeanours. In both of these sentences, there is a comma before the "and", you would only do this if the part of the sentence after the "and" could stand on its own and isn't reliant on the part of the sentence before the "and". The third instance of a comma before "and" in this entry (Individuals do not remain amongst the same community for long, and most return to their monasteries) is an example of correct use of a comma, as "Most return to their monasteries..." can be understood without the previous context. What may be happening here is an incorrect oxford comma where you place a comma before the "and" in a list, but it's only a list where there are more than two items. "mustard robes, cool hair, and silent demeanours" vs "mustard robes and silent demeanours". I hope that all makes sense. :) Also in some cases where you have a comma and no and, you have to be careful of a comma splice

I'm pretty bad with typos and missed words so I wouldn't be surprised that there are a few errors here and there though on the whole I'm doubtful that there's any consistent grammatical errors or issues with sentence structure. please point them out so that I can check them

Nate Mangion

I had a quick scan through and noticed quite a lot of unneeded and incorrectly placed comma's.

Conrad Staier

you're right - I forgot to add it. the OP has been updated

Is there no download link for this one or am I missing something?
