Patron Survey
Added 2020-02-14 15:04:09 +0000 UTCI’m on the cusp of getting 60 patrons, which is a milestone I never thought I’d reach, and it’s got me thinking about what YOU are getting from this project - what are you here for and are you getting that?
The idea with this Patreon was to make a page where I can showcase worldbuilding in Elyden.
Over time, I realised that most people who were becoming patrons were doing so out of self-interest in my cartography, rather than an interest in the world of Elyden.
I want to be clear that there’s nothing wrong with that whatsoever, Indeed it’s very flattering to have people use my maps in their personal rpg campaigns and projects. Many others are interested in the map content to improve their own mapmaking, with lots of people messaging me through instagram, twitter, fb and reddit, with questions about mapmaking, not specifically related to Elyden. Which I love doing, but it is quite time-consuming, and takes time away from actual worldbuilding and cartography which my patrons are here for!
To everyone who actively reads the lore, short stories, histories and encyclopaedia entries -
A HUGE THANK YOU. To everyone who is here because they love my maps and want to either use them in their own campaigns or want access to the PSDs to improve their own cartography - A HUGE THANK YOU. You really don’t know how much your patronage has inspired me to continue working on Elyden. Without you I doubt I would have kept up the pace, making one map every 4-weeks the way I have been for the past 3-years.
THANK YOU.
Having said that, I’d like to ask you all what you are doing here to see if I can tailor the tiers to better suit what you want. I’m thinking of mixing up the tiers to tailor them for what different people are here for, and am thinking of:
Loremaster
Specifically for the people who are here for the worldbuilding aspect of Elyden, with access to all the lore and history posts, standard res maps, stories, flash fiction
Explorer
Offering high-res and textless maps for those who want to use them in their own campaigns and writing, as well as possible content which is of use to roleplaying
Cartographer
With all the above + monthly or weekly workshops (either one-on-one or on a discord server) to help out with the process of actually making maps. This tier will also include tutorials and access to PSD files (the cartographer tier).
I’m also thinking of making the tiers to you cheaper to what they currently are overall, and possibly combining different tiers together for a saving (Loremaster + Explorer, or Loremaster + Cartographer)
So I’m asking you what you’re here for. If you could please answer the below poll to give me an idea of what you are looking for from this page, so that I can tailor make the tiers to what it is you want. Please take a few minutes to answer any and all of the below that apply to you. Please be honest with your answers :)
Please let me know what you think in the comments below.
I'll be leaving the poll open for 2-weeks to give everyone chance to give me their opinions,
Thanks again!

2020-02-17 07:06:36 +0000 UTCI am honestly here for everything. The maps help inspire my map-making for my world. But the lore of your world draws my interest as well. I read every encyclopedia update, read all the lore, include the Demiurges, short stories, etc. There don't think there is an update that I don't at least read through. Keep up the good work!

2020-02-15 05:41:37 +0000 UTCI don't actually have time to read most of what you create but I dig what you are doing and want to help you be able to do it.

2020-02-14 21:00:30 +0000 UTCAs a fellow cartographer Im simply a patreon because i love your content and wish for you to create more. I know first hand how difficult it is to not be paid for creating something intricate and detailed, having economic support is always a big help

2020-02-14 19:01:39 +0000 UTCWould agree the maps are what gets the attention in the first place, but I like reading about the political and social geography of Elyden as well.

2020-02-14 15:34:45 +0000 UTCI originally came here for the maps, but your worldbuilding has been an inspiration as well, especially the short stories. BTW, I’ve think I’ve settle on just doing my maps similar to your old style of just using mountain brushes in photoshop until I can get the shapes of topography down to something I’m satisfied with. Thanks for the help and inspiration btw!
