AHOY! WE'RE BOAT PEOPLE NOW

Hello, gang. If you're still here... thanks for being here. Hot innit?

We're in North Yorkshire. Been here a few days, via a brief jaunt in Nottinghamshire, and been filming a lot. This morning was Boat Morning, and it was everything we wanted it to be. We even managed to not lose the drone at sea. Though it did get stuck in a tree this evening, and getting it out was horrible, because the tree was full of flies. Disgusting.

Yes: we captured all of that on camera.

What I can safely say is... this video is definitely us back at our most chaotic and ridiculous. Even so, it's still about some big ideas, and very ambitious, and I managed to scare away a man called Craig by asking him about beach perverts.

I can also promise... no politics. Being completely honest with you... the last Poland video, and some of my posts on here, have clearly buggered us up a bit. It hasn't been a good month for Patreon, after several similar months, and that was on top of us getting maliciously reported to YouTube for "AI misinformation" which has throttled our views on the recent videos. I confess... we're feeling a bit down about all of that.

Suffice to say, we hear you, and I'll aim to temper my opinions on everything from politics to Doctor Who from now on. It's never a good idea - and I knew that - so I completely own it. I just let myself get too affected by stuff that's happening in the news, and - yeah - people telling us they preferred our old videos.

I try to be authentic - I mean, I struggle not to be (it's a curse) - but clearly there's a limit to how much of that people can stomach, so I'm going to try to shut up about it all from now on. Sorry to anyone who has found me too much of late.

Anyway. Other than that casting pretty much the only cloud over filming... we've enjoyed ourselves up here. We've another day of filming tomorrow - and then some more filming next week in Norfolk. So far, it has been the best sort of filming in that there have been lots of little 'gifts' - things that we didn't expect or plan for which have changed the course of events, or added extra little spontaneous moments (including "Craig").

I've not taken a ton of photos, mainly because we've been too busy filming, but here are a few. Again, thank you for still being here.

Cheers, Geoffrey. I think the problem we've got is Digi's history. Maybe we should've started a new channel really instead of pivoting!

Great photos and looking forward to the video! It's a real shame that you are feeling unable to talk about such topics (of course I understand you having to make a "commercial decision"). While I wasn't commenting much, I was certainly reading pretty much everything. OK, I glossed over some of the Andor stuff - I'm currently not interested or able to justify adding more streaming services (and my time seems to go somewhere anyway (not always sure where!)), and I'm rather tired of seeing adverts for all the big budget corporate US stuff as things like BBC are seemingly on the decline. "But you watch wrestling, Geoff?!" That's true, although not all that much at the moment, really, and I am tired of the constant advertising and much of the general direction with that (WWE is now owned by a mahoosive corporation that also owns UFC, and it is just about profit, profit, profit). But I will argue until the cows come home that when done well, it is some of the best storytelling and drama in the world, and - oh(!) - no stunt doubles required! Anyway (if anyone is still reading...) re: Doctor Who, I stopped watching when Tennent left, but I think that was because I "generally" don't like change (actually, I recall not being happy when he took over from Eccleston, so by that logic, I should have persevered!). But the recent series' sounds pretty terrible. I remember when I started watching the reboot back in 2005 - I was so proud that the Beeb was producing TV with such high production values (at the time, most of the CGI was pretty incredible). In fact, it was through watching Doctor Who Confidential in 2007 that I thought once again that I'd love to work in media production, and by the end of that year (partly by chance) I was a production assistant (ok, largely for e-learning content...) editing audio, a little bit of video and making the occasional trip to a recording studio and events in London. And speaking of Doctor Who Confidential, I have a very-very loose family connection to it... the director of that show (Zoe Rushton) used to be with the son of some family friends back in Wales. And much later, his twin daughters apparently appeared in one of the Matt Smith episodes! I've never met her, though.

Cheers, Nicko. Yeah, I just feel strongly that empathy and understanding gets us further than the alternative, and dehumanising those we disagree with is only going to compound the issues we face. Both Sanja and I trained as counsellors, and we learned the importance of unconditional empathy. But... not everyone is there yet, and perhaps Digi is the wrong place for it.

Sorry to hear the politics didn’t go down well. It’s always going to be polarizing, I suppose. For me, I like that you’re not afraid to occasionally speak for and empathise with people who are turning to the right. The average person in the uk - but especially young people - are struggling. Social contracts seem broken. Shouting about fascism isn’t going to address that or stop people voting for a different party. Pictures look great btw - love your t-shirt!

Nicko
