KIND OF LOST FOR WORDS...

I'm writing this literally less than 2km from The Wolf's Lair - the Nazi complex where Hitler spent more time than anywhere else during WW2. Appropriately, or inappropriately, it's from our bunker-themed Airbnb (see above). I just tried to upload a video for the upper tiers, but... the wifi here is pretty rubbish. I'll do it tomorrow or once we're back on Wednesday.
Today was unexpectedly intense and emotional. The last time I felt like this was on the drive back from Chernobyl. That same sort of giddiness on the way there... only to be confronted with the stark reality of history. We drove back to Kyiv in silence. I ended up getting really drunk that night... and you'll see in our Polski Sklep Corner video that the same thing has happened tonight. Sorry. I just don't think I've ever been somewhere that felt so palpably evil.
We filmed everything, so you'll see our mood change in real time pretty much as the weight of it all started to bear down on us. I don't think you can really understand it without coming here. It was all a bit too real.
We've done a couple of endings to our main video. One of which is pretty emotionally charged - quite by accident - and one that's more typically us, but you'll get to see both either way.
Anyhow... we're heading back to Warsaw tomorrow before flying home on Wednesday. We might film a little bit - there are a few locations I'd still like to visit - but we've been filming every day for a week and we have more than enough footage. Plus, I'm kind of history-led out at this point. What a trip. What a country. Properly, profoundly, life-changing.
Here are some pics from today. And yes, I did do the "Adolf Kitler" joke. That was before we went inside...

Glad we can bring you with us in spirit at least, Marc.

2025-03-03 20:24:06 +0000 UTCOk, let me preface this with two important caveats: 1, I'm Polish-American and have heard Polish jokes all my life (How do you confuse a Polack? Put him in a round room and tell him to sit in the corner) and 2, I had no idea of the historical significance of the Train To Heaven public art piece before your post. That being said, when I first saw the photo, all I could think was POLISH SPACE PROGRAM! (I'm sorry!)
