SATURDAY BLOG: PO-PO

So! Hello. Happy Saturday. We should have some sort of Patreon-only video for you this weekend. We’re also going to keep the Let’s Plays going while we’re away, so you should have another of those. Hopefully they can tide you over until the next BIG thing – which is only a few weeks away now.

Sorry we didn’t get you a main channel video as planned this week. Our intention to film was still held up by my stupid back – it’s pretty much better, but it’s still… not great. It should be okay-ish by Poland. I mean, if it isn’t I’m just going to have to suffer through it, because the trip’s all booked. Painkillers are my friend.

We do need to find a way to get videos out if we can;t get out to film though. But aaaanyway…

Having this enforced downtime has at least allowed me to get ahead on the Poland vids, animating the cutaways, and doing some extra research. When I say “allowed me to”, I mean… I’ve been absurdly hyper-focused. I’ve always got this bit of guilt in my brain which tells me you’d rather we just got our videos out faster, but this sort of thing is my catnip. When I stumble upon stories that I never knew about, and disappear down rabbit holes, I find it hard to come up for air.

I’ve animated a lot of it already – again, there’s always that part of me that thinks “Why am I spending three days animating what’ll amount to two minutes of video?”, but it’s just impossible to stop once I’ve started. On the plus side, you’re getting broadcast-quality stuff at least.

As I’ve said already, we’re doing two main videos, and one or two more fun, throwaway ones.

Of the main videos… one of them has suddenly become incredibly topical. I’ve spent a lot of this week rewriting everything in response – it has turned the whole video on its head in a way that gets me very excited. Which is good, because everything else about current world events is really getting me down, but it has meant a big re-focus of why we’re going. In a good way. Though with the speed of world events, I’m sure we’ll end up re-writing while we’re over there. And again when we’re back.

For the other main one… which is less time-sensitive, and kind of more fun/tongue-in-cheek… we’ve had some very exciting news.  We’re hopefully meeting with someone in Warsaw who… is a big deal. Majorly big. You may not have heard of him, but his research is the ENTIRE reason for our trip to Poland – and to actually be able to speak with him is nuts.  If the dates can’t line up, we’ve agreed to speak on Zoom when we’re back.

Again, sorry our output hasn’t been quite as frequent as we’d have liked. We’re still aiming to do some live streams when we’re back, but it’s kind of important to me as I get older to make sure everything we put out into the world is as good as it can possibly be. I’ve said before, I want our videos to feel like an event – whether they’re a batshit episode of Digi Level 2, or one of our doco things. In good conscience, I no longer want to be making stuff for the sake of making it. BUT! We will try to find a way to keep you furnished. We’re working on it.
