ALL THE GOOD NEWS...!
Added 2025-01-09 11:00:33 +0000 UTCMorning, all!
We have men on our roof. I can hear them up there now… bangin’ an’ scrapin’. I’ve closed the curtains, because I don’t want them to see me.
This is the third batch of fellers in our home this week. Yesterday we had a plumber out to fix a persistent dripping from our water tank overflow, which had to be sorted before they could do the leak – it has been trickling for a couple of years now, so it feels AMAZING to have that fixed… but it would also seem to have been the cause of our roof problems, because it meant that the roof always had water on it.
Solution: a cheap little valve needed replacing. From tiny acorns mighty problems grow.
Anyway. We also got another couple of small plumbing jobs done by him. He was very good, and I was so grateful I told him he “was like Jesus to us”.
And we also needed an electrician out yesterday evening, because our hot water tank was tripping the power, and we had no hot water. We thought it might’ve been leak-related, but apparently not. Just coincidence and bad luck.
So, it’ll be an expensive week, but all of it needed doing, and it feels nice to know we’ll soon be living in a leak-free home at last. But then we’ll need the ceiling fixing - at last! - as well as the upstairs bathroom, which has been in a state that I shall euphemistically refer to as “ready-to-decorate” for the past two years. And various other bits and pieces around the house. It’ll all get done. Feels good!
Part of why we’ve put off having this work done for literally years was financial, obviously, but it was also a fear of people who profess to know more about this stuff than we do. We needed a plumber a year ago to do some work. The first one stormed in, took one look, huffed “It can’t be done”, and left. Still invoiced us for the call-out fee. The one after that did an alright job, but the taps he fitted became loose shortly afterwards.
The time we called plumbers before that, for what we thought was a small job, led to almost £6,000 worth of work… which with hindsight probably didn’t need doing. So, we felt burned, and being broke as I was for so long meant we genuinely could take the risk of being hit with a bill of that size again.
But… when you get a really good tradesperson in… it’s the best feeling. Especially when your living space has been neglected too long (not out of choice or wilful neglect, mind).
Anyway. That’s our week.
In other news, for those of you who didn’t get my Kickstarter update yesterday, you would’ve had Digi Level 2 Ep 5 yesterday, but just as I was about to start rendering it… I discovered some footage I thought was lost.
It was a video Dan Does recorded for a segment that I’d wanted to do since before we even started Digi Level 2. I had to recorded my half of it… but when everything happened last year, I thought I’d lost it. I felt bad, not least because Dan had gone to all that effort, but also because it was something I’d been desperate to do. Anyway. Found it! So, the ep is slightly delayed because it can only go into this piracy-themed ep – I can’t hold it over for ep 6. And I can’t record my bit until the men have stopped their bangin’ an’ scrapin’, whenever that will be. So bear with us. You’ll have the episode next week, 100%. It’s REALLY good, even if I do say so myself.
In the meantime, I’m working on getting Ep 6 done.
Sorry I've not replied to comments and messages yet this week. Been caught up in all the other things. Sanja really appreciated the birthday wishes though!

Bangin’ an’ scrapin’ aside, it’s always a great feeling to get this stuff done, isn’t it? That hefty weight gets lifted and suddenly everything seems easier. Had the same thing when we finally got our kitchen ceiling fixed after the bathroom leaked and brought all down, right where I’d been standing 30 seconds beforehand. Enjoy the “spurt” in momentum you’ll no doubt get now. :)

2025-01-09 12:46:28 +0000 UTCMorning Paul - yeah great news regarding the "Found Footage" (hehe) and that things are literally on the mend with your place. Your experiences sound very similar to what I went through - my toilet overflow had failed and after it supposedly being fixed, it (as well as joints in my bath pipes failing) caused a water build-up above my kitchen ceiling, and so there's now a hole there.... But in some ways, it's reassuring just to know that there is no more leaking! Hope the work won't take too long.
