US AF (ALSO WRITER'S CLUB/BIFFO'S BRAIN)

Morning, Patrons.

The UFO vid is almost there, but… we’ve still got one final thing to film. We’re going to Lakenheath tomorrow to do that, and if you’ve been following the news… you’ll know why.

We were going today, but the weather is going to be foul apparently, so we’ve postponed it. I should get the rest of the video pretty much in order today, and then it should be relatively easy to drop the new footage in.

Oddly, without even meaning to, there are a few Christmassy bits in there, so it’s oddly appropriate for the season.

Lakenheath, you may know, is the largest USAF base in the UK. It’s an important place to me, because it’s where my sister’s first husband was stationed back in the 80s. True fact: it’s the first place I ever ate pizza.

There’s a whole American town there – I remember being awed by the sports field, with its bleachers and American football goal posts. The products in the shops were all American – we’d go in and my brother-in-law would buy me comics that I’d never seen before. Beetle Bailey was one I remember getting regularly. For a kid, it was a very cool place to visit.

They won’t let us in now, obviously – especially not in the current climate. But there are a few choice places we want to film around there.

In fact, there is another link there to UFOs; my sister and her husband lived in an old Post Office, in a tiny little village – I mean, barely even a village; there were about four houses. Right behind their house there was a corn field that stretched off to the horizon, with telegraph poles vanishing into the distance with it. It’s so flat round there, and all looked very Mid-West USA, reminding me of certain scenes in Close Encounters of the Third Kind. We have to film there.

Tonight we’ll do a joint Biffo’s Brain/Writer’s Club Zoom, for those of you who are around at 7.30pm. I’ll send a link later. Expect lots of UFO talk, and some of what you can expect from the new video.
