GHOST HUNT UPDATE

Morrrrrrrning, all.

Thought I’d just give you a quick update on the next Digi video, which Patrons should get tomorrow.

 The main edit is done – that’s the part where I shape the narrative, choose the structure etc. 

We have to film a tiny bit extra this evening, because we were so tired by the end of the shoot that neither Sanja nor I knew what was going on enough to record any sort of conclusion. We like our early nights, and didn’t finish filming until about 1.30am. Lightweights.

I’ve got to say… I think it’s a VERY funny video. I mean… we’re beyond shambolic. If you give us instructions to do something “properly”… and tell us to be quiet and behave… this is what happens, inevitably.

Not least when one of us (mentioning no names) is pretty much gripped with terror from the very start, and can barely point the camera in front of her...

There’s probably not as much Ashens or Gannon as we’d hoped, in part because everyone was off doing their own thing, and also… just because that’s the direction the video wanted to go in.

The good news is… upper tiers will get around 90 minutes of outtakes, including Gannon’s full pre-ghost hunt briefing, which went on for about half an hour, and a very silly bit with Ryan that, again, didn’t really fit.  

The outtakes also include a rundown of the equipment we had with us. It’s really interesting, but just didn’t have a place in the video we wanted to make (not without it ending up at two hours long). In the end, it’ll be about 55 minutes, I think. I’ve still got some tweaks and trims to make, but that’s kind of what I’m aiming for length-wise..

 Thankfully, Gannon was having such a good time he more or less forgot to record anything for his own purposes. What footage he did film he has sent to me, and I’ve found a way to incorporate some of it. It makes a nice counterpoint to what Sanja and I are up to, especially when our behaviour crosses over with his ghost hunting. We also have a gorrrrrrgeous drone shot thanks to Tom and Rob from Channel84.

It IS a different sort of video to Supernatural World, but as I’ve said already we will be doing one of those in time for Halloween. We’re trying to make most of our videos have a point going forwards, something a bit more than just wanton silliness, even if that point then gets obscured by wanton silliness. I dunno. I just think it makes them more satisfying.

Honestly, the run of videos we’ve done since we started the channel up again have been some of the things I’m most proud of doing ever. They feel consistent, ambitious, informative and are all different from one another – visually, tonally, and thematically. While also still feeling like they totally belong together.

We're aiming to record a new short or two later. We’ve seen they’re doing well for us, but we’ve not yet done any which are specially shot. There are lots of things we come across during our research and our travels that don’t fit into a main video. We’re going to try to record a bunch, so that even in breaks you’ll get something from us… even if it’s a teeny-tiny something.

Biffo's Brain was a possibility tonight, but we'll be busy fannying around in yet another graveyard, so we'll put a pin in it until next week.
