BLOG: ALMOST TIME...

Hello, you lot. Sorry I've been quiet this week. But! The good news is that the next Digi video is done, and is currently rendering. It's 37gb, so it's going to take a while to complete and upload, but I've got the ethernet cable plugged in. It should be with you by tonight.

Pardon me for parping my own horn, but I think it's bloody brilliant. Some of our funniest stuff, and I'm so proud of the story it tells.

Might prove a bit controversial for some people though. We did almost put it out as two videos, because there's such a tonal shift midway through, but it's all one story, and on balance we felt it worked better as one piece. Yes, it's another long one, but those seem to work for us, and we're trying not to listen to the perceived advice that shorter videos do better.

Life's weird at the moment with Digi in the ascendant alongside my mum being in the state she is. She has vascular dementia, due to her heart failure, and she isn't who she was. It's heartbreaking.

We're just trying to put one foot in front of another, and it's harder than usual to juggle multiple projects at once. We're trying to prioritise - aside from the stuff that pays the bills - what's going to be most enriching.

BYAMPOD and Digi Level 2 have been the unfortunate - but temporary - casualties of that. Literally as I type this, we're waiting on an ambulance to take my mum to hospital again, so once we're on an even keel we'll get back to a regular schedule on everything, including Biffo's Brain and Writer's Club. Promise.

Depending on what life throws at us over the coming weeks, we're planning one more big video for the main channel before getting back to completing Digi Level 2.

SLIGHT ISSUE

I've a slight issue now in that the final episode has Larry in it, and not in a way that I can easily exorcise him. It's a good sequence too, and features Eli's only bona-fide appearance in the series, so I'm not sure what to do.

Some of you may recall that Larry has done his best to burn bridges with his friends in the retro gaming community, while simultaneously courting a certain clique of retro gaming trolls. I won't go into details, but he's listed as a contributor to "George Bum's" new book, which - for those of you in the know - should tell you everything. I gave him a second and third chance to redeem himself over his behaviour towards me, but it seemed as if he hadn't learned a thing.

That particularly clique have spent the last few weeks accusing me on Twitter and YouTube of buying our new subs on Digi, presumably due to my association with British retro gaming YouTube. Who they hate.

I've been ignoring it, but finally snapped the other day and laid into one of them. It takes a lot to push me over the line, especially publicly, but my mum is slipping away, it was my dad's birthday, and... I lost it.

Anyway. Turns out that they've been watching Digi's performance on Social Blade, and seeing that we were getting nice round numbers of subscribers every day - precisely 100 here, 200 there - and decided that was the smoking gun,

It took me 2 minutes to look up that this is the same for literally every channel listed on Social Blade, because that's how subscriber figures are reported outside of the YouTube Creator Studio; they're summarised to the nearest 100.

I pointed this out, and the guy deleted his posts, so hopefully that's the end of that nonsense.

Not really what I needed at the minute, but anyway.

Right. Video later. Talk to you all then.

Comments

I know this is an old post but I've never seen you say explicitly it was Larry who was causing trouble (I had an idea it was Larry) it's a shame as he was always good in the few old episodes he was in and you two seems to have good laughs together. To he honest he always seems to have that "internet troll" way about him but I didn't think he would act as bad a he has been especially when you've given him more chances than he deserves.

Your video's popped up om my recommended fairly recently and, after watching, I subscribed, because it's good. I imagine that the recent push by the algorithm has exposed people to your videos and the quality has led to many subscribing. No woo woo about it, it's just what happens when people are exposed to good content that may have previously been buried.
