BLOG: THE CONSPIRACY MINDSET

Morning!

Sorry I’ve been quiet this week. Mother stuff. I shan’t bore either of us with it.

BUT!

The blue coat is out of storage, and we’re filming a new video for the main channel tomorrow. We’re very excited.

In fact, we may end up filming TWO new videos, if we have time, and potentially even some exclusive stuff for Patreon. Sanja is also very keen for us to set up another channel for shorter, more casual videos that don’t really fit anywhere else.

I’ve really missed doing these though. The gap wasn’t meant to be this long, and between the monolithic Digi Level 2 and everything going on with my mum, I crashed hard into a wall on Tuesday. I think I just need a break for a bit, and ‘play’ again. I realised I’ve been just putting one foot in front of another for months, and haven’t done anything for me. I’ve even been fannying around with music this week for the first time in ages (demo above of something I knocked up, if you’re interested).

The main video we do tomorrow will be another in the conspiracy series. This is kind of a direct sequel to the Milton Keynes video, which is now heading for 60,000 views, and is officially our most popular ever video; bigger even than Ashens Eating Some Pringles and Goujon John!

Not every video we do from this point will look at conspiracies, so worry not. The one we do after this will hopefully be completely different, but I’m so loving the comments from those who just don’t get us, or seem to think we’re trying and failing to do a serious video, that – thankfully offset by loads who do get us – I just want to make hay while the sun shines.

After this, we do want to lean into more vlog-y type stuff a little more (in our own unique style of course), just visiting places without the masses of research beforehand. Just a little more casual, less formal presenter-type things alongside the bigger ‘documentaries’

Not that I don’t enjoy the research. I love it. I spent all day doing it yesterday. My goal is always to try to get some real history in there amongst the more out-there conspiracies, and the stranger the better. I’ve learned a ton of stuff I never knew. I just think it helps the comedy land better – and is more in the Digi wheelhouse – to give the vids a bit meat alongside the tangents.

CONFIRMATION BIAS

It’s weird though, coming at these things from the POV of a conspiracy theorist. Putting myself into that mindset I can really see the confirmation bias at work.

You can connect almost anything to some shadowy cabal if you look deliberately for connections. I mean, that said… there’s still stuff I discovered about tomorrow’s location which gave me chills. The same thing happened with Milton Keynes, to the point that I actually left a load of research out, because it was straying too close to waters I wanted to avoid.

I could’ve mentioned that a Rothschild was the deputy chairman of the Milton Keynes Development Corporation… but I didn’t want to encourage the anti-semites. That still hasn’t stopped some of them commenting, mind. I prefer to stay in the realm of weird coincidences (and there’s one to do with Rishi Sunak that’s pretty freaky).

It’s slightly shocking how widespread the conspiracy thinking has become now. After the last decade or so, people – perhaps rightly – really don’t trust those in power anymore.

I’m reading a book at the minute called 21 Lessons for the 21st Century, by Yuval Noah Harari, and it talks about how AI will completely disrupt the world. I think there’s a lot to be scared of when it comes to AI, but I don’t think it’s just us regular types who should be worried. I think it risks upending – and dismantling – the entire power structure of the planet.

Anyway. Topic for another time.

So. New video(s) coming next week (which you will of course get early), then I need to get back to Digi Level 2, if life lets me. Thanks for hanging in there. More soon!

Comments

I do like the comment that spelled farce as farse. It really should be spelled farse.

Congratulations on the new subscribers and excitement on the channel. Some of those comments have been fantastic/unbelievable. Excited for the new videos 😊 I think I’ve been missing some of the Biffo and Sanja dynamic in my life !
