THE END OF AN ERA?

Here’s a secret: the truth is, today is the THIRD time we’ve filmed the intros for Digi Level 2. As I’ve mentioned before, the previous time the footage on the main camera was out of focus.

But actually, that recording session – which, regretfully, saw Gannon and I on a real roll – was itself a reshoot. We’d originally recorded the intros on Day 1 of the first block of filming last year, and I was really unhappy with how they went. I went home that night feeling pretty rubbish about it all. Same thing happened on Digitiser The Show. Day 1 was a write-off.

The short of it is, the original intros were done with me and Gannon, and also Eli as a different character in each one. It was the first thing we shot for Digi Level 2, and something I’ve realised is I need a bit of time to get warmed up.

Gannon and Eli have decades of experience working together, and slipped easily into their usual antagonist banter/shouting, and the intros descended into something more Cheapshow than Digi. I got a bit lost in the mix, and the actual content – the video game bit – did too.

Which, I’m sure, some of you would love – everyone loves Eli, he’s hilarious - but this is Digitiser, and the balance of it all just felt wrong. So we recorded them again on the last day of that first block, and it was great, and then I watched the footage back, and my heart sank.

So here we are for the third time, and I think it’s a silver lining. We’ve a stunning new set, and a whole bunch of new segments to record on top of the intros. After this, all we have left to do is some location stuff and some additional green screen, and the world will at last be able to see what we’ve been working on for the past couple of years.

Between this, the anniversary, and next month's Digi Live, it's feeling like we're coming to the end of something with Digi. I don't mean the end of Digi altogether - we're going nowhere - but the closing of a chapter. There's a real sense of closure and summing up with Digi Live in particular, as videos start to come in from top-top-top-secret guests who can't be there, and as we piece the script together.

Of course, Kickstarter backers are why Digi Level 2 happened, but we also owe it to our Patrons too. You’ve been especially understanding over the last year – and the past few months, as I've finally begun to claw out of the huge hole Covid etc. left me in - and as we’ve said before we couldn’t have gotten through it without you.

Genuinely. That isn’t in any measure false gratitude.

You literally – literally – saved Sanja and I by continuing to support us on here. I honestly don’t know what we’d have done without our Patrons. So, again, thank you, thank you, thank you. We hope to get to say that in person to lots of you next month.

Your audience will always be here! Just realised I hadn’t upped my sub for a while so I thought I’d match you to what I do with CS. Looking forward to seeing what else I get to see!

It cracks me up that Paul and Eli can’t turn off the “married couple arguing” energy even when shooting for anything else. I always loved those moments on Barshens as well
