We watched the official Grammy's livestream today and chatted with everybody about these somewhat expected nominations and who we thought was snubbed or represented well or poorly and whyyyyyy! we also played this new music game called Whatsamusic and I think it went well (...for some more than others...) so let me know in the comments if we should play again on another stream :) thanks for watching and let's plan to meet here again for the ACTUAL Grammys in the new year - ok bet! 2024-11-12 18:56:00 +0000 UTCHe didn’t say his reactions weren’t real. He said that his expectations for artistry have changed, for the better, because of all the incredible music coming out. Because of that, an okay album by Taylor Swift is going to seem less than okay after hearing the calibre of other music that’s coming out. It’s a shifting of expectations and that’s a healthy thing. He said he was going to be MORE real with his OPINIONS, not that his reactions weren’t real. Basically, he’s not going to sugarcoat things as much anymore because he’s been working really hard on expanding his musical knowledge and his ability as, not only a reactor, but a reviewer and critic. Taylor Swift is popular but she is critically, and otherwise, divisive, as a person, brand, and musical artist. Troy has liked things from her in the past and he’ll probably like things from her again but that doesn’t mean he needs to like EVERYTHING from her or about her. That’s unrealistic. And, when he thinks a piece of work she put out is less deserving of an award, or a nomination than the countless other INCREDIBLE work by other artists, both well known and otherwise (many of whom have never won a Grammy or even been nominated for one), he’s well in his rights to say so. Also, judging by his response, it sounds like he’s pretty tired of having to defend his opinions to her fans, especially on his own Patreon. Taylor Swift is just a person and she has done things that are worthy of criticism and that’s okay. I wish there was more room for that conversation without it being turned into “That person must be a hater” or something. Nuance exists and I wish that could apply to Taylor Swift. Instead it seems you’re either with her or against her and I find that kind of thinking super alienating and it makes me, and many others, I’m sure, less inclined to want to engage with her/her music/her fandom because of that kind of all or nothing rhetoric.

I loved most of the anthology and I actually preferred the production elements on the first half more than I did her actual lyricism. I think I relate to troy’s review of the first half a LOT where I really feel like her writing shines through when she’s in a level, clear headspace vs. when she’s angry and vengeful. I do love WAOLOM but songs like I can fix him and down bad are just not for me lyrically. there are definitely good moments in songs on the front half, but taylor is known for entire songs being lyrical masterpieces, like the anthology, not just little moments within the songs if that makes sense?? either way I appreciate the album for what it is and was honestly surprised that people didn’t like the production!!

The sheer amount of astounding albums that have came out this year really showed me how deep artistry can go so moving forward I’m just gonna have to be more real about my opinions or else I’ll turn into the guy that just likes everything. Cowboy Carter is such a sonically unique and diverse album that tells such a story and takes you on a wild ride. That said I do love Chappel Roan’s album and even listened to Andre 3000’s woodwind album this morning. It was really good and if you like song titles I encourage you to check them out 🤣. Haha we all wish he would’ve dropped some bars like when he was in OutKast but I will take some funky woodwind music from him.

But I'm thinking her next album with all this love and freedom she is feeling now, is going to kill it and whenever it comes out will be top charts.
