DIGI/BYAMPOD UPDATE
Added 2023-01-11 14:08:27 +0000 UTCHello gang. No regular Digi this week, because I'm a bit behind on work. I had a lot of inquiries on Fiverr over Christmas, which I put off until after New Year. Then I had to follow up on them all. It didn't help that, like most of us coming back to work, last week was a bit of a grind.
I'm not complaining. It's nice to have work. Weirdly, I did something this week - via Fiverr - for the guy who used to manage the band Aqua (of Barbie Girl fame).
I'm clearing the decks, though, and almost through it - with a view that the rest of the month will be almost entirely Digi/Digi Level 2-focused.
If I can get finished today with what I aim to get done, we'll be recording podcasts tomorrow (BYAMPOD, Writer's Club, and maybe a general new year update), and actually filming some Digi stuff on Friday.
I was going to do Biffo's Brain Zoom tomorrow night, for those eligible, but I really need to get this week out of the way, as the writing is leaving my brain crushed every evening. Therefore, if you're available, we'll have one the next TWO Thursdays (the 19th and 26th) to make up for those we've missed.
So anyway... you'll all get stuff this week. There just won't be anything for the general hoi polloi.
Some of you are wondering when Digi Live Weekender tickets will go on sale... and so are we! It's booked, and the deposit paid, we're just waiting on Harrow Arts to make it live. The woman in charge of that was off last week, but if we've not heard by next Monday we'll be chasing it up.
In other news, BYAMPOD has been approached by a small prog band about whether they could sponsor us to go to the Montreal Marillion Weekend. We've spent days weighing up their offer - what they want in return for it, and whether we can really justify going, despite remaining broke - and, as much as we really do appreciate it, and are always open to sponsorship opportunities, we didn't feel this particular deal was right for us. Even though we'd love to go to Canada.
Lastly, I know most of you aren't here for my musical exploits, but I worked on a couple of new tunes over Christmas. Up there at the top is the first part of one of them, if anybody's interested. It amuses me, because it reminds me of the theme to The Rockford Files.
That's it for now. More soon!
Paul

2023-01-14 18:17:27 +0000 UTCYou’ve always been good at doing the atmosphere, but I think you worried about the actual musicianship. Well, it’s definitely coming along. That guitar counterpoint at 3:57 may be simple but it’s absolutely correct for the piece. Nice.

2023-01-12 11:57:24 +0000 UTCThat was great. I can certainly see what you mean by the similarity to The Rockford Files theme! (I just started watching it recently, actually - it's a really good show which holds up remarkably well.)

2023-01-11 20:13:11 +0000 UTCThe intro really reminds me of the end theme to Repo Man, "Reel Ten" by The Plugz. I really like that kind of effects-drenched single guitar notes over the top of a relatively low key background, and not just because it's something I can get reasonably close to with my own limited skills. You mentioned you were playing around with some kind of guitar sim, if it's got any models of Gretsch hollowbody guitars (G6120/G6119) or ersatz versions thereof they're quite interesting for this sound - a bit murkier, more sort of "surf-y" and also have that sort of early '60s dreamlike quality if you play chords without the bass notes and add a load of vibrato. Have a feeling I won't be around for the 19th, but there's a tiny outside chance I might be able to dial in from somewhere weird. And good news on the work front, even if it's a bit of a grind it's at least a paid grind!

2023-01-11 16:20:50 +0000 UTCThanks for the update - it sure sounds like you have a lot going on indeed! I'm listening to the extract from one of your new songs (it's good!) - I'm glad you found time to create some more as we all know it brings you a lot of happiness. :) Not having Biffos' Brain tomorrow actually helps me, as I am trying to get a project of my own done (another parody, and this time about the world of WWE (okay, as if anyone here is interested in that...! :D), which is constantly changing with all the recent scandals and change in ownership, etc., and I'd hate for all my work to go to waste (plus it's one of the few things right now that gives me a sense purpose). But, I'm looking forward to the next one, plus the other things. And it's very promising that you had that sponsorship opportunity - hopefuly bodes well for other things.
