Hello gang. I thought I'd share with you all some of what I've been working on for Digi Level 2. I may have mentioned already that, given we're going to be celebrating the 30th anniversary of Digitiser, the plan this time is to embrace its teletext aesthetic a bit more. I want it to feel as close to its inspiration as possible.
When the original Digi characters do appear, some will be live action, some will be appearing in animated teletext form (see the animation test for The Snakes, above). I also want to have an animated title sequence based upon various iterations of the Digitiser index page.
See the images below for some of the elements - the eagle-eyed among you (those who remember Digitiser anyway) might recognise a few things. And those experts among you might realise that these graphics aren't actually real teletext...
My thinking is: if we made a Digitiser TV show spin-off in 1997... what would it look like? I mean, apart from me looking 25 years younger than I do now.
SPIIIIIIN
Talking of Digitiser spin-offs, apologies again for not having any new videos the past couple of weeks. You know that's unprecedented for us, but Sanja's second bout of Covid kicked off a nightmare 10 days (now settling down, thank gawd). We did have filming plans during those two weeks, but they fell apart. We're scheduled to film next on Tuesday, but we're going to be bringing you the Q&A - in podcast form - soon.
Also... nothing definite yet, but we've had an idea for an extra Patreon tier, above the Writer's Club one. It obviously wouldn't be for everyone, but I do know some of you are prepared to contribute a bit more, despite the fact we've always tried to price the Patron as cheaply as possible, compared to most of our contemporaries.
The reality is... with the Digi/BYAMPOD Patron now accounting for more of my income than in the past, we have to be realistic about what we could offer (having done a bit of detective work, we have more Patrons than most of our mates, but actually bring in a lot less money).
The idea is something quite exclusive and personal, and - also - something I'd really like to do, which wouldn't overload me. Win-win! I'll let you know more soon once we're sure we're going to do it.
ANALOGUE ANNIVERSARY ANNUAL
In other news... some of you may have given me feedback about a Digitiser annual. The response was overwhelmingly positive. We're DEFINITELY going to do it, but we're going to hang on a bit until we've got some of Digi Level 2 done and in "the can". The aim is still to get it out sometime in the 30th anniversary year.
I'd also like to do a 30th anniversary 2023 calendar. The previous one we did sold terribly, but it was probably the best piece of merch we ever offered. We have a lot of Digi Level 2 Kickstarter rewards to fulfil early next year, and we'll have our hands full, so we'll see.
Anyway... that's it for now. Have a lovely Easter. We'll be back next week with a brand new ep of Digi, plus other stuff.
