Honestly I totally get the slight differences in the album’s production being distracting at first, although when I continue to listen to it those differences completely dissolved to me and I just have fun listening to the songs like when I first heard the originals! Then again it’s not like I have a super trained ear, plus I don’t really listen to the originals at all unless I pop in the CD/vinyl I bought when it first came out. People really seem to forget that she’s contractually obligated to change the songs if she wants to own them. The production has to change, the way she sings the songs— she literally has to change the song as much as she can, without destroying the integrity of the songs, so that she can actually own her work and for some reason swifties still complain. If she could give us the exact same song again, she wouldn’t have to re-record in the first place. We could just listen to the originals. But something was taken from her and regardless of her financial gain or losses I don’t think it’s fair to blame Taylor or the producers for doing what they’re SUPPOSED to do, and that’s change the song in a significant enough way that she can legally own it.

Agreed! I just hate how it is almost always the same argument. I'm happy for the people that love the TV's of Blank Space, Style and New Romantics and think that they sound the same or better than the originals, but to me it's just not the case. If they sounded 'the exact same', I wouldn't be saying anything - and trust me, I wish I didn't have anything negative to say. Then there's also the argument of "it's been almost a decade of course it's not gonna be perfectly identical" - but she is clearly capable of doing so because you have songs like OOTW, AYHTDWS, I Know Places, Wonderland and You Are In Love which in my opinion were knocked out of the park! It was clearly a stylistic choice she made and I, along with others, can respect that whilst not completely agreeing with it. I'm not a producer, the only thing I know about music is that I listen to it. I will say that since my original comment, Style and New Romantics TV have grown on me but I don't know if I would go as far to say that I prefer them. I think it's difficult because for me I initially had no complaints about either of the original versions, but after hearing the TV's I find that there's actually a lot that I prefer in the re-recordings but the negatives are so negative for me that it really puts me off it. Don't get me wrong, if I had never heard the originals or at least didn't regularly listen to them, I would probably think they were amazing but it's difficult for me to not be picky when I've heard one version of the songs endless amounts of times for 9 years and to suddenly be re-introduced to one that feels like it sounds completely different even if they are just minor changes. I apologise for the rant I have just gone on!

YES thank you for saying this!!! The ad-libs in the songs are one of my favourite things about them and I was really upset with how almost inaudible they were at times or at least in comparison. For example, the ad-libs in the OOTW outro elevate the song for me so much and they were just SO quiet in the TV - don't get me wrong I am still majorly in love with that re-record but I'd be lying if I said I didn't wish the ad-libs were the slightest bit louder on most songs.

This is not true, she owns the copyright to her songs, just not the master’s which is the original recording of the song. She owns the full composition and lyrics- everything. She just cannot own or profit from those original studio recordings called the Masters, which is devastating because those albums are her life’s work. But yeah, she can re record identically down to the breaths, it’s still her music.

Honestly, it’s not that I don’t hear all of the differences people are talking about, but I am so much more big picture about production that it really doesn’t bother me. I hear the stuff that’s better (OOTW. The “STAY”s) and the stuff that’s meh production-wise or instrumentation-wise just doesn’t matter with the improved vocals for me. I don't like how much someone can get attacked for not liking a Taylor's version more than the original. "Stop being dramatic", "It's how she wanted it to sound", "Let her be happy", "Respect her"; I love Taylor and of course I respect her and love the Taylor's version projects but I'm allowed to prefer the sound of the original version of a song over a TV. Yes I heard those memos and it made me appreciate them so much more!! I like the thought that midnights could be some 1989 rejects/discarded songs. The same could be true for other albums especially since the whole premise of midnights is sleepless nights throughout her life; that could mean she looked back at some discarded lyrics or songs ideas from past albums and used them for midnights, but saved some for the vault tracks too!

I’m convinced midnights tracks are the vault tracks of 1989 that she wasn’t gonna use for the 1989 TV. Cause these 1989 TV vault tracks are sister tracks to other on 1989. And the midnights tracks kinda sound alike but aren’t sister songs to 1989 songs. Also it just shows her growth into the world of pop music as well.

I’m convinced that midnights tracks are some vault tracks from 1989 and that’s why they seem to sound similar and also think that’s she kept these 1989 TV vault tracks cause they are all connected to other songs on 1989. She released voice memos that said OOTW and IWYW are sister songs to Is It Over Now? And Say Don’t Go is the sister song to AYHTDWS. “Slut!” Can be connected to Blank Space about the media criticizing her. So it’s safe to say she is the queen of pop now.

Mostly good, Style was done dirty as was New Romantics to my ears. Love thing throughput the rerecords has been the adlibs seen to be so much quieter in the mix which really makes a huge difference. But so many dinner week, Out of the Woods is phenomenal, and she nailed All You Had To Do Was Stay. The vaults were mostly Bellissimo! Say Don't Go and Is It Over Now? are my top!

Can’t wait to watch this!!! I have to say the production changes are growing on me but it’ll take some time getting used to. And the vault tracks are sooooo midnights it’s very interesting. It makes me wonder what we would think about them if we got 1989 TV before midnights!! So excited to hear your thoughts though!!!

honestly the changes are fine with me cause i know i will get used to every single one of them cause also im aware she can’t make these songs sound exactly the same like with every detail etc. i also got a feeling that they made this album sound more fresh and i honestly feel like im the only one thinking that😅

I watched your live stream of this and I couldn’t agree more on everything you said about a lot of the songs. But I will say the layering of the vocals and instruments was done soooo clean and crisp on this rerecord! You can hear every backround vocal and every instrument but it doesn’t muddle or overpower the song itself. I think the production was clean other than some decisions on some songs. The vault tracks are her best ones yet. She killed it overall and actually made me like some songs again.

Before I watch and get your reaction I m saying that I love the turned up production of the OG 1989 tracks. The midnightification of the vault tracks is a choice. I don’t hate it, but a little part of me wishes they had stayed true to what the production would have been originally.
