Faith in the Future - Louis Tomlinson FULL ALBUM REACTION/REVIEW

hey patreon homies! so here's my full uncut reaction to the new Louis Tomlinson album Faith In The Future. oh boy, where do I even start with this album... man. actually, let's not talk about the album that's what the video is for, let's talk about the fanbase for sec. I'd like to believe everyone here respects my opinions about music so I'm not really talking about any Patreon members but I've been seeing some tweets asking about this live stream, and the responses from Louis fan accounts (most don't follow me) have responded with stuff like "he should just keep it to himself", "better off not posting it", "we don't need it" Etc, etc... and you know, that just breaks my heart. I've been trying to become a more honest and factual reviewer/reactor over the past few months - it makes me feel more valuable than just a reactor that hypes up everything they hear.

But when I see tweets and responses like that, before I even POST the video, it makes me feel like I'm posting just to be thrown to the wolves.  That's not fun, I don't wanna be a part of that, that doesn't get me excited about posting. The only conclusion that I've been able to reach on my own is that because of the way Louis has instilled this "tomo way" of "never taking shit from people" mindset into his fanbase for so many years it's created a group of online fans that have bred this animosity towards ANY kind of criticism of his music. I love bonding with fanbases on the channel, it's one of the top things that get me hyped to post new videos but the way I've been treated by the L.T. fanbase, straight up makes me not wanna post. Like, I'm not about to work my ass off for a whole week of editing just to be harassed in the comments about my completely valid opinions. But at the same time... I kinda wanna post it in spite now lmao... shit

so honestly, idk. I wanna open it up to yall who have watched and seen the whole video uncut. should I post? should I not? idk pls advise

Faith in the Future - Louis Tomlinson FULL ALBUM REACTION/REVIEW

Comments

Bruhhh I wanna watch this 😭

Faith

Hi Troy! The link says this video doesn't exist anymore. Is it possible for you to re-upload it? Thanks in advance 🥰

Emma Heikkilä

about your video specifically: you do have a lot of criticism throughout, some i agree with but most that i don’t (no hate here), but this video in general does seem to have a lot more than usual, which i recognize you said in your caption that you’ve been trying ‘honesty over hype’ more in your videos and i think that’s great, but it’s a risky move (in general bc the internet is mean, but especially with an artist with such an intense fanbase). if i were in your shoes i’d just be very selective on how you edit this one because i know you’ve gotten hate in the past from this specific fanbase and my emotional content™️ heart couldn’t take that lol. and by that i mean definitely keep your constructive criticisms in, but also maybe acknowledge this is going to be happening more across the board and it’s not just a louis thing 🤷‍♀️ and obvi keep in the parts where you enjoyed it. idk, im not a youtuber i work in marketing so what do i know, lmao. but that’s what i would do. at the end of the day i’m just happy you at least gave it one full listen and that added to his streams for release week, lol. god speed, troy!

Kristen

hi! so i read your description, and i watched the video in full, and as someone who has been a fan of your videos for years, and also a big fan of louis’ since the 1D days, i’d be happy to give my opinion should you want to read it 🙂 i want to start by saying i’m really tired of people being mean to one another on the internet and just bc someone is passionate about something doesn’t give them the right to be an ass to others, so im sorry for all the hate you got when you simply stated your opinion on something. with that said, i think louis’ fans can come off overly protective of him and his music because he is a comfort person for a lot of people and was still always known to the general public as “the least talented” one (which i personally feel is unfair to say, but it is what it is), and it can feel like people who don’t have the background knowledge that some of his more longtime fans do, don’t appreciate the growth he’s had and all of the work he’s put in to get where he is today. his solo career has been very different than the other guys and i do think it’s taken him much longer to break out of the One Direction bubble and form his identity outside of that so it’s naturally going to take more time for people, including himself, to embrace that sound from him. he has gone on record many many times now saying how insanely proud he is of this album and so a lot of fans will defend every second of it. so i hope that somehow provides insight from a massive fan’s perspective. ultimately, everyone has the right to their own opinions, obvi! and while we’re all allowed to agree and disagree, i think it comes down to respect and appreciation. you (the general you, not you specifically) don’t have to like something in order to respect and appreciate it, and while this album wasn’t what you (you specifically now lol) were looking for, i do think in general it’s a big leap in his career, confidence, and journey as an artist and should be treated as such.

From my personal experience, I am very grateful to the louies, since I have come to know very nice and friendly people there; However, I know that there are parts that are not like that, which unfortunately happens in all fandoms. I was not aware of what had happened in the past, I came to your channel thanks to the video reaction of Walls (when it was not yet edited) and the truth is that I really liked the comments you made and I started to see more videos on the channel from there . On this occasion, I do not agree with many of your opinions but that does not mean that neither yours nor mine are incorrect, they are simply tastes and I perfectly understand how you liked some more than others. Just as you liked some songs like bigger than me or thats the way love goes (which are the ones that gave me more vibes to Walls) I understand that others preferred some more rock vibes and that their favorites are silver tongues or face the music, we all have our preferences and not everyone can like everything. Personally, I feel that this album is much more to the sound that Louis wants to achieve compared to Walls, and although it has things that can be improved, I really like the direction it is taking. It is really up to you if you want to publish it or not, I feel that many people should stop taking the opinions of others so personally, that in the end we are all pixels on the internet and that you like something different from the other does not affect in anything in the life of any of us, everyone should just enjoy the music and stop getting into so much pointless fighting. By the way I don't know if you plan to react to Ashe's new album "RAE" that came out a few weeks ago, the video reacting to "Ashlyn" is my favorite of the whole channel, I hope you can read this and good luck in everything <3

Josselyn Silva

louis stans are nuts i know from personal experience lol 😬

Majeda A

honestly, as long as you say specify why you don’t like it, nobody should be mad

Maya Alfaraj

Oh, well. Thanks for the fast reply anyway! :D

Betty0012

Hey Betty I’m so sorry about the view limit, right now there isn’t a way I can find on Google to change it I think the only solution is to wait it out. Sorry homie, I wish it wasn’t like this

HAZE (Hamilton Troy Hayes)

can you repost this or somehow change the view limit on it so that we can watch it? I joined the patreon for this reaction and I can't access it rn

Betty0012

Re constructive criticism or framing criticism in the positive, there have been recent papers showing that it doesn't help - most people will only hear the negative and fandom, particularly Larry/ Louie /Harrie, can't separate finding something less than perfect as the same as devaluing everything Louis has ever said or done and suggesting he has no talent at all - which is very much NOT what you were saying - but I think there are a lot of binaries in fandoms - if you are a fan, then you love everything and the only other option is hating it. And no gray zones at all.

I watched your livestream the day after I went to Louis 's release show at Irving Plaza. I hadn't heard the album before I went to the live show so it was really fascinating to come to a lot of the album 'fresh' with you. I very much believe that honest criticism of art MATTERS tremendously in the world. And the conversation about art (and for that matter, about criticism) matters to society. In some ways this situation is not totally unlike the political reality we have in the US where people are have often been like the truth is what my team (red or blue) said -- and I'm not even going to look critical at your evidence because you're biased and lying and conspiracies. People don't make an argument any more, they make an assertion and you have to agree or you're trashed by the group. Now, that's idealism not reality: and I also strongly believe you should decide how much internet crazy you want for yourself. People demanding a reaction - especially demanding a POSITIVE reaction? You owe them nothing . I mean, I'd love it it if you went even deeper on Louis's album or 5sos or whoever . I adore Walls and it was your reaction that helped me understand the craft of how it evokes a kind of emotional response and that's not what this project does at all. I love a lot of the sounds but I'm not as connected with all of these songs. Some of that's taste but a lot of it is technical and I really truly appreciate your subject matter expert position on sounds and production and where things work or not. I get so frustrated that NY Times Popcast / Rolling Stone / music critics don't even look at something like 5sos5. And I love the album, and good lord I love that band, but it makes me nuts because I don't know if critics are listening and it truly isn't interesting (though f that's the case I'd like to know more about what I'm missing) or if they've just done a sort of boy band write off and not listened at all. This comment became an essay but my point is this: your voice / angle is so valuable - you take seriously bands and artists and music that not everyone does and you apply a critical eye. Just cause a fuckton of girls like something doesn't make it good/bad/critically interesting as a failed/successful project. I think you do something that's pretty unique in assessing what the artist's project was and whether they succeeded on *their own terms* - while also being honest about what's your own taste ( and you're fun to watch!).

kj (grey)

Alll of what Kate said; although having listened to a few interviews with Tiffany Im not sure she went down the rabbit hole ENOUGH.

kj (grey)

👆👆💯

kj (grey)

as a hard core louis fan of since the beginning, i say post it. at the end of the day your opinion will upset someone. you're not always going to say what someone wants you to or agree that a certain song is amazing. it's your opinion if they don't like it they can get over it. i'd also like to add that not all louis fans are like that, they like to act like the 'tommo way' means to be rude and jerks to people but it means to not take shit from anyone and don't let them walk over you.

ciara morris

I haven't even watched the video yet, but I'm 100% here for authenticity. Not everyone is going to like everything, and that's okay. That's the beauty of music. And if stans can't accept that, they honestly just need to grow the fuck up.

Aubrey G

hellur, so here are my thoughts. no matter what you do, if you arent saying that this is the best music you've ever heard, louis stans are gonna come at you. I think you know best about the video and I trust your music reviews greatly, but as someone who was in that fandom for a few years, you will kinda be attacked no matter what you do. I think that this also may incite commentary from larry shippers and that in itself is really hard to deal with because they tend to be relentless. However, I think that as everyone has said so far, this is your channel if people don't like what you're posting they don't have to watch. It's more of a reflection of them and that fanbase than on the work you've put into this channel as a whole. I don't know if this made sense, but, I digress. I think there are pros and cons, it's just up to you how you want to spend your energy. sending love!

anna stanton

I personally always like your take on something even if I don’t agree. Some of my faves on 5SOS5 were ones you didn’t like and I think it’s interesting to hear why! At the end of the day, people asked for your reaction so I think you should give it to them, and if the comments get too heated you can always turn them off! That being said, I can’t watch this reaction bc the google drive link isn’t working anymore but we move 😂

Charley

i can’t watch it cause too many people accessed it but just wanted to say that if you feel like you want to put this out, you should do it and if people will not agree with your opinions and will hate on you just because you were honest, it’s their problem, not yours, every person should be allowed to have their own opinion on something no matter what!

anna maria

Is there another way to watch this? It won’t let me open the google drive anymore as too many people have accessed it

Rachel F

admittedly this reaction did hurt a little... just a smidge because I do really really love this album but at the same time you are totally entitled to your own opinion and to share it without being attacked and cancelled by a sour part of the fandom. I would totally recommend watching some of his interviews where he talks about the album and his intentions so you can really understand where he was coming from. I think his interview on the Zach Sang show was really good for this because you also see where his head is at now. The singles definitely weren't my favs so going into the album I expected to not like it as much because, as you say, it felt a little surface level - except for bigger than me, that's still one of my favourites for sure. I'm also so glad that you loved common people bc thats my favourite song on the album and it really means so much to me because originally I interpreted it like he's going back home to his roots and his just a common person again but also on the flip side it feels like advice for those people with a dream of, in my case, "fame" or just wanting to be a musician because its like "you'll hear strangers singing your name if you act like you're one of us" and that feels sooooo motivating to hear coming from someone I look up to. But now also hearing that it could be about immigration makes total sense and its such a comforting warm and encouraging song, Thank you for your reaction (even if it wasn't as positive as I was hoping) ive been looking forward to this as soon as I knew Louis had an album coming out. I think despite the amount of people who might feel disheartened you should still post it on youtube for the people who truly just want your reaction because at the end of the day, it is just your reaction and you dont have to be sorry for that. also please please please please please please pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee react to gracie abrams music. her vulnerability and poetic lyricism is both heartbreaking and healing at the same time. and her voice has such a gentle fragility to it I just melt every. time. anyways thank you for the reaction it still made my day :)

caitlin

I haven’t watched it yet but I want you to know that most of us appreciate your honesty in your reviews! Music is subjective and people sometimes forget that your opinion is as much valid as that of stans or even casual listeners. I love your content cause it’s original and you crack me up! And yeah sometimes I might be a bit butthurt when people don’t vibe with a song I really like but that’s life🤷‍♀️ this level of toxicity in some Stan communities (even if not representative of the majority of fans) is straight up damaging and doesn’t allow for dialogue or sharing your own take on the music and that’s a shame… ANYWAYS! You do your thing Troy and we’ll appreciate and support you and your content no matter what 🤟🏻💫

Eleni Zicos

I feel like a lot of reactors these days are giving the standard "this is amazing" reaction, which is fine. But they do it for EVERYTHING. And, it makes me wonder. Is that how they really feel? Or, is that just how they want followers to think they feel about a particular artist or band? Honestly, I appreciate the fact that you are honest about what you like and dislike. It makes you feel more genuine. Personally, I don't even think you were particularly harsh about the album, just critical about the aspects you didn't enjoy. However, knowing Louis's fanbase, they will most definitely see it as an attack against him. I made a comment about Out of My System not being my favorite of his when it first came out, and I was roasted. And, I'm a fan of his. I've learned to keep my opinions to myself since. Any opinions other than that this is the album of the year (or just behind Harry's) is unwelcome to the majority, unfortunately.

Jessica C.

I really like the way you have been more honest lately. I think it is one of the reasons I enjoy your content so much. Many "reaction" channels stay clear of saying anything negative to avoid this kind of reaction from fanbases. If you aren't being honest about your opinion I think that defeats the purpose a bit. There are so many fanbases that need to take a step back sometimes and realize that negative feedback isn't always given with bad intent. I think this is kind of similar to when you post reviews instead of reactions, you have said you enjoy reviews more. This is your channel and people are watching to see you and that comes with your opinions. I think it would be sad if you couldn't post the things you want or say how you feel about music on your own channel. Plus I learn more about music when you go more in depth with your reviews. I think it is cool that we get to learn more about music while watching a creator we support and enjoy watching.

Ashly Resch

You make really good points; people made it seem like you absolutely hated everything and ripped the album to shreds, but I agree with everything you said, and I still love the album. I think there was something off when it came to putting the vocals with the musical production, but ik nothing about production, so I'm probably wrong, idk maybe he was focusing on this being a tour album a bit too much, but I think he should get into production and be more involved in that to make it more him. To me, it seems like he's still in his comfort zone when it comes to creating songs; in one direction, he would write the lyrics and wouldn't touch the production, and I think it's similar now, he said a song would be made, and he would have a concept and then write the lyrics, which I think makes some of the lyrics feel a bit forced. Also, with this album, he could've taken the opportunity to play around with a lot of different sounds even if it would be a bad album; it would help him have a more coherent sound and direction with his third album because if he realizes that this album was not it, he would still be experimenting by his third album which would most likely be around 9 years into his solo career and 15 in his music career in general, and by then he would be expected to have found his sound. Anyways, I loved your video, you actually made me look at the album from a different perspective and I appreciate that.

Maya Alfaraj

completely agree with the second paragraph, they asked for it so they can learn to deal with the criticism, thats coming from a hardcore louis fan lol. plus, its not like he didnt enjoy every song!!

Tahlia Dockrey

I love that you have been more honest and have taken a more critical stance on your reviews. I would give a tad bit of suggestion that I learned from my communications professor in college, when giving feedback its important to balance negative w positive. We notice the positive in our brain, and maybe don't acknowledge them out loud like we do with criticisms. It's about balance, so maybe making a point to add at least one thing you like in each song makes the negative feedback more palatable. but honestly, its your video and your channel so do what seems right to you. People should also know if they really love an artist or a project they might be bias and reactions/reviews might not be the best space for them. Stan culture needs to collectively take a deep breath and gain some perspective. I don't agree with all the things you say, but I would never want you to not express yourself because of that. We can all agree to disagree and appreciate what we do agree on. It is music after all....:)

PettyCrockerXX(Annie)

i was a huge one direction stan and i never fell into following louis’s solo stuff, not bc i don’t love him but his music isn’t my taste..and in the real world that’s okay and no one’s business but if we’re talking strictly online no one is allowed to have any sort of borderline indifferent or negative opinion. an artist having a passionate fan base is a blessing but it can turn real ugly if those fans don’t receive the reaction they want from people. listen, i’ve been there. for example, we both love the 1975… if i come across anyone who doesn’t like them, yea i might feel defensive and not understand it, but i still respect their opinions. and i’m sure you can relate to that as well. i 100% think you should post the video. they asked for it, they requested it a million times, so give it to them. you’re gonna get shit if you don’t post it too, there really isn’t a way to win here so wouldn’t you rather just release it and get it off your chest? i haven’t watched the video yet, but i feel like i’ve been watching you long enough to know that if you don’t love a song or an album you’re never rude or disrespectful to the music or the artist. sure, you make jokes here and there but when it comes down to it you still respect the work and you give it a gentle let down. if the louis stans can’t handle a different opinion then that is completely their own problem not yours. if it really comes down to it maybe turn commenting off LMAO

Julie

i dmed you on twitter a few hours ago apologising on behalf of our fandom (dont wanna be associated with those people though) because its so embarassing for me to be apart of sometimes. I love and respect how passionate and honest your reactions/reviews are so please, dont listen to those people who feel the need to send you hate just because theyre close-minded. you shouldnt be made to feel like shit for like you said... your completely valid opinions. In terms of posting it, I understand why you would be hesitant because I know how hard you work on editing and with the reactions youre already getting, but honestly I wanna say screw it and just go for it. I think a lot more people will enjoy it than not. Its obviously up to you though!

Tahlia Dockrey

i watched the whole live stream on twitch and i am myself a big louis fan but do not interact with the fandom at all anymore out of the same reasons. i personally loved that you kept it honest and love to hear different opinions on the music that also gives me a perspective i might have not considered before myself. that being said i think it's totally understandable if you don't want to put in all the editing work to post it to youtube only to attract mean comments, i'm sorry it is like this you really don't deserve it because it's pretty clear that your honesty is never ill intentioned in any way :/

coffeejelly

I’m so sorry you were treated that way by so called fans. It’s so crazy that people can’t have their own opinions on things. I love Louis, I’m a huge stan and I loved the album but I know it’s not it for everyone. Just like you love the 1975 and I don’t like them. There’s music and genres for everybody to find something they love. Why you gotta hate, Louies? Back off.

Ash Jackson

Wow , I’m gonna check out that book thank you Kate!

hammy

I was a 1D fan back in the day, and unfortunately, I think their fans (including fans of their solo work) are kind of… the worst of stan culture? There’s actually a literal book about it, Everything I Need I Get From You by Kaitlyn Tiffany. Basically, unless your video is you sobbing about how amazing every single track is, you’re going to get hate from Louis’ fans. That said, as a subscriber, I appreciate the turn towards more honest / objective content, and I think you should post the video, but just be forewarned that you will get a lot of snotty comments from the fan base.

Kate H

I haven’t sent the video yet, but I still think you should post it… people who can’t admit if something isn’t fantastic or won’t allow others to form their own opinions on their “faves” aren’t being fair. Personally I’m a big Panic! Fan and I hated the new album, but I still like them. Just because someone doesn’t like one song or an album doesn’t mean their shitting on an artist.
