LIGHT AT THE END
Added 2018-05-22 09:48:06 +0000 UTCHello gang. Apologies for being a tad quiet this month. I'm right in the midst of the busiest time of year for me, and - though there's light at the tunnel - the last month has been relentless.
Also, I get married next weekend, and I'm trying to make a TV show. No rest for the wicked and all that.
I was at the Retro Revival games expo in Walsall last weekend, as you're no doubt aware. It was a really nice day, though I do hope I get to go to one of these things as a punter at some point, and not be rushed off my feet. I never get to really browse the stalls, or play any of the games.
I'd be lying if I said it isn't nice being asked for selfies and autographs and whatnot. My life is relatively normal the rest of the time, and I'd hate to be properly famous, but it's fun pretending to be so for the occasional day here and there. We never had any contact with the audience back when I was doing Digitiser, so it's oddly gratifying to have the chance to meet some of them now.
Also, everyone is SO nice at these things. I was talking with Chris Bullock yesterday - she did the sound on Found Footage and will be working on Digi - and saying how I struggle with smalltalk, and get restless in certain social situations, but the joy of an event like Revival is that we're all there because of a joint passion. Smalltalk is taken care of, and we connect over that.
Sharing a panel with Iain Lee was a bit surreal, I confess. Even though we spent an afternoon with him last year for Found Footage, I was taken aback by how much he remembered of the day, and how he'd seemed to have enjoyed it. As I said to him backstage, he's had a bit of a year since we did filming together - as his career has seen a bit of a resurgence, he's also been through the mill in his personal life.
I felt a bit embarrassed that there was as much focus on his FF role as there was, given that it took up roughly three hours of a career that has many more high profile credits. He must've known that he could've easily taken up an hour on his own, so I'm grateful that he was so gracious in giving me opportunities to waffle on. Even if he did have to drag me back on track when I started rambling about, I dunno, how often sloths poo (and that was in the first couple of minutes).
So anyway. I'll be doing another panel in August at Play Expo. If you're coming, I'm hoping to have some Digitiser show footage to reveal. The rest of the year - once I've got my current work commitments out of the way - is shaping up to be consumed by editing and filming on Digitiser the Show - which will be done piecemeal due to schedules.
If you didn't grab a ticket to the live recording, we're looking at hiring a fairly large venue, and making some additional tickets available. That's probably happening in October or November, and we'll likely screen at least one episode of the series. Hope some of you can make it.
Right. Think that's all for now. I'll drop you all a line once I'm a husband.

2018-05-22 18:53:29 +0000 UTCHave fun next weekend! Top tip: Make sure you've taken all the labels off any new clothes. I only noticed at the church gate that I was proudly displaying my waist and inside leg size down the back of my left thigh.

2018-05-22 13:46:47 +0000 UTCBreak a leg on the big day mate, and congratulations. I know what you mean about being nice to be allowed to be a "celebrity" on occasions like conventions when people know who you are, but being not famous enough that it intrudes on your day to day family life, thankfully I'm in a similar position, and sometimes get asked to appear at film or music events. Its fun to feel semi important for a day, then go back to regular life! I'm hoping that my retro gaming projects launching this year mean I'll get invited to gaming conventions next year, as I'd like to make small talk with other people passionate about the scene, its probably the thing I can waffle on about the most :P Congrats again man, enjoy the big day!
