Dissent dev blog #3: Meet the unit types (part one)
Added 2021-04-14 20:15:36 +0000 UTCToday, I thought I'd get a start on introducing you to the unit types that will be featured in the core Dissent rules. There are ten in total, but let's start with the first four, along with more of the wonderful art that Arthur Cordeiro has been producing for the game.

Condottierro
A mercenary captain in command of their own company, the condottieri are the most experienced starting units in Dissent. They've seen multiple campaigns and countless battles, and have the skills (and starting CRUX die of d8) to prove it.

Knight
A noble warrior, the knight is the best starting fighter in the game, and a viable leadership alternative to the condottiero. They start with a CRUX die of d6.

Man-At-Arms
A seasoned veteran soldier, well-proven on the field of battle, the man-at-arms is afforded better equipment than their fellow lowborn soldiers and mercenary scum. They start with a CRUX die of d6, and come with more skills and traits than your average footman.

Fledgling Hero
A diamond in the rough, this young warrior is eager to prove themselves on the battlefield. The fledgling hero is inexperienced, starting with a CRUX die of d4 (like the standard infantry, which we'll cover in the next update), but begins with more skill traits (special tactical abilities) which can be selected from a wide range of trait lists. You can also customize their starting attributes more than the other unit types. The trick is, you only get one (unless you choose the "Adventurers" force trait when designing your warband, but that's something we'll cover later).
That's all for today, but next time I'll go over the basic infantry units.
