Research Begins on Delta II SSBN Sub Brief

Like effectiveness on the water? No. Because they are behind it. Well, actually, I should say I doubt it. They would have to be extremely close, and even then it depends. Now if they were in front, then Yes. Once the water coming from the front of the sub (cause were assuming the sub is moving forward) the first thing the water inline with the fairwater(sail) planes hit is the fairwater planes. Thus the planes interact with the water and create the reacting force on the sub. And that's it, once that is done, and as long as the water has a uninterrupted path off the planes, the job is done. Now once the water flowing off the planes is off of them, what it hits next can create drag, noise, vibrations in the sub (more noise and maybe breaking things). But you will be able to control the sub no problem. The only time it could be a problem is if the object is so very close behind it that the water interaction with he missile deck might raise or lower the pressure enough (or other fluid dynamic properties that I can't talk about cause I don't know enough about) might apply and cause lack of effectiveness by the fair water planes. Remember that air behaves like a fluid. Airplanes can experience similar problems. Look up compressability problems with fighters from ww2, and you can get an idea of the forces at play. Almost always though, this is from obstructions in front of a control surface, not behind.
