Project 955 Borei Research Begins

Didn't realize the first one was laid down in '97 Damn those years were nighmarish, I remember we would come visit my grandparent every summer and up to 2004 it was "interesting" situation in Russia. I guess as with Yasen there will be some major differences between Yuri Dolgolukij and Aleksandr Nevskij

The upper left image is nowhere near either Borei or Delta IV or any other Russian submarine for that matter. It looks more like a drawing of a bathtub toy sub.

I would say the "public" information is intended to be misleading. This one is way obvious as its clearly a Delta IV. Tupolev may be referring to an "upgrade" to keep her active after the Typhoons were mothballed. In the US we sometimes classify "upgrades" when they are actually new aircraft...such as E-2D, AH-1Y/Z, etc.

My Russian sucks (well, is non-existant) but the image above is of two different submarines. The lower is certainly the Borei but the upper one appears to be a Delta IV, perhaps added for comparison details. Or did I see this image wrong...
