USS Nautilus in floating drydock 1969

Notice the two 7 bladed screws.  She started her life with 2/5's in 1955 but was continuously improved over her 25 year service life.

Thanks for the info, I had no clue there were that many twin screw nukes..

The rear looks the same as its launch photo to my eye, minus the screws of course. http://navsource.org/archives/08/571/0857181t.jpg

Wasn't the Triton a modified Nautilus?

Looks like the changed the planes and butt too. It was rounded originally. I think they added nose sonar bulge too. William, lots of boats after this had twin screws, the largest the Triton. BTW Jive remember these were the first operational cruise missile submarines, they carried tank on the back with a Regulus

Hey Jive, if you need something from the Nautilus museum let me know. I live nearby.

Even without the teardrop hull the streamlining attempts are clear on the Nautilus from this photo

Interesting. I've only ever seen it from the waterline.

The Skate class, Halibut, Triton, etc also had twin screws. I think it was every US nuke sub prior to the Skipjacks...

Jive , was this the last sub to have duel screws for the US.
