Re-watching this montage, I'm even more convinced that Satoko's relationship with Rika is not entirely platonic. At least on Satoko's part.

I‘d like to think that there is a difference between spoilers and teasers, but fine, i‘ll edit it out. Sorry if I ended up spoiling anything.

Could you please not spoil Umineko for Rose? There is no reason to mention something like that.

You noticed a lot of things about Rika and Satoko in this episode and while I‘m a Satoko stan, I still find one thing weird: At one time, Rika seems to be reaching out to her and at others she seems to passively take part in ostracizing her and that makes me wonder: What IS Saint Lucia Academy?
I love Satoko.

Satoko came to the school because of Rika, so dropping out isn't an option for her. The school in Hinamizawa isn't a high school, so even if she did drop out, she would then have to find a different school somewhere else where she would still be alone and most likely miserable.

One of my favorite things about this setup is that it gives Satoko somewhat relatable reasons for turning against Rika. We all have that time in life where we drift away from friends, but couple that anxiety with Satoko's already bad abandonment issues, the stress of St. Lucia, having no one to reach out to, and maybe a dormant HS still brewing and you can start to see how she might be headed down a bad road.

Another solid episode! This truly is the beginning of the Team Satako vs Team Rika debate that has persisted ever since. Personally, I'm with you in seeing that they both contributed to this dynamic where Rika tries to help Satako in a slightly condescending and distant way while Satako pulls away and refuses to share her feelings with Rika. It makes me want to just tell them to just talk about their feelings with each other but I have to remember that they're in high school and high schoolers aren't always great with being blunt and honest about their feelings. Anyway, it's also kind of funny to hear the creepy music not being associated with murder and insanity but instead.... studying for tests. Poor poor Satako. Next episode is SUCH a good one so I'm really looking forward to it! Also, as an aside, Rika and Satako's calendar said 1987 on top. There's probably a context someone could explain as to why 1983 is also written on the bottom of the calendar, but the subtitles also say that it's 1987.
