No Game No Life Episode 9

Comments

In case anyone else is still confused, basically Sora needed an elf's magic for observation and surveillance to prevent the Warbeasts from using non-video game cheating (magic) that Sora and Shiro can't deal with. By having an elf observing for them, they can limit cheating down to video-game only cheats, and any video game cheating, Blank can deal with it. The easiest way to get an elf is by convincing Kurami to join their side, however, given her obstinate belief that Sora and Shiro are being backed by the Warbeasts, there was no amount of explaining that could make her help them. So he came up with a game that allowed them to steal each other's everything, including memories, experiences, thoughts, and even existence. The game itself had 2 goals. 1. to obtain an elf by winning. 2. by giving Kurami Sora's memories so Kurami can trust Sora. The only way to do this is by losing the memory piece. The problem is that, to achieve goal 2, you now can't win. By then, other parts of your existence like nerves, beliefs, and memories, have all been taken, and even his own existence. The pieces are numbered from the least important to the most important, so by the time you have your memories taken, you would've lost 90% of everything else that made you you, soon after Sora's memories are taken, his existence is also taken. However, before the game began, he wrote a rule that stated that in the case that the players themselves are unable to continue playing, their partners will step in to play for them. Hence, regardless of what happened to Sora himself, even if his existence is forgotten by everyone else, Shiro will still remember it because she's also a participant of the game. Shiro is also participating because none of Sora's pieces taken from him affected her because he valued her above all else. What Sora valued above his own memory and existence, were 3 things. 3. the way to win the game 2. his absolute trust in Shiro 1. Everything that is Shiro. These last three pieces being intact allowed Shiro to remain in the game. Shiro, understanding what game it was when looking at the Othello stones, began to deduce what color his brother would be, and that to obtain Kurami's trust and hence the elf, what he would do to lose just the right amount of pieces so Shiro can make a comeback. This game was meant for Shiro, Shiro = white.
