By the way the "Make 'Em Laugh" song is a re-working of a song called "Be a Clown" which comes at the very end of another very good movie musical, The Pirate, starring Gene Kelly and Judy Garland, from just four years before this movie. The melody is identical, but the lyrics have been changed entirely, though both songs are making exactly the same point.
