good thing we didn't had nightmares after watching this!

The Shining (1980) Full Movie Reaction

Comments

his Joker was the perfect blend of hysterical gag jokes and UTTERLY TERRIFYING

Alyson Addington

Yeah the "updated" series wasn't creepy at all. Just....tedious and far too few actual scares. I spent half of it yelling "OH MY GOD PLEASE DO SOMETHING OTHER THAN TALKING ABOUT YOUR MARRIAGE PROBLEMS!!".....yeah about 80 percent of all three episodes of the mini series was the adults talking about their marital issues and the kid wasn't awesome like the one in the movie he was sulky and whiny and aggravating and I'm totally blaming him for their parent's marital issues. I may or may not have been screaming "DIE KID!! DIE!! DIE!!!! " while wishing to shove him off the roof of the building at some point. during all this. The closest I ever got to it was when we drove by it on our way to....wherever we were on our way to ski on that particular family vacation. It's so much more HUGE than it looks on film. Probably due to it not being the actual hotel lol. I didn't know THAT part. Thanks for sharing the info, I'm going to hunt it down now :) Jack Nicolson never plays any character except Jack Nicolson and he plays it a little TOO well, doesn't he?

The actual Stanley Hotel is located in Estes Park, Colorado. You can visit, take tours, etc, and they have recently installed a hedge maze to appease fans, but unfortunately it is not the hotel you see in the movie. Most of the interior shots, and the maze were done in studio on studio lots and were just sets. Some of the interior shots were done at the Timberline Lodge in Oregon, and other exterior shots were done in Oregon and Montana. The original Stanley hotel is neat to visit, even though the hallways did not look the same, I still got goosebumps looking down the halls and thinking that I might see the twin girls! It is cool to know while you are there that a stay there by Mr. King brought us the story.

Alyson, the terror in Misery is of a more natural, insidious nature than The Shining for example. Which you are right, does make it more horrifying to me.

ohh i see. i guess back then they weren't really into series how they are now... more money was invested into movies i guess.. but in this Movie i had this creepy feeling all the time, it felt like a demonic feeling ughhh. Jack made us think probably his spot on acting comes from the fact that maybe he is like that behind the scene lol. but was a different kind of movie for sure

Not really horror?? That movie terrified me. And the book was def. horror.

Poor Shelly Duvall. There's a TV mini series made about this but I don't think it's near as good as the movie, there's no creeping sense of menace to it at all. Then again that may just be Jack Nicholson bringing the creeping sense of menace to it that he brings to every movie he's ever been in, including Little Shop of Horrors. (I think he was only in that one for a minute and a half) Anyway watching him descend into madness is always spot on, and the ending to this properly creeps me out. I both do and don't want to spend a few nights at the Stanley Hotel just to see the hedge maze in this film.

Yes, the movie is Misery. I think you will enjoy it.

Doctor Sleep next... so curious now about that! thank you for ur suggestion!!

haha yea yea. i had bad dreams man =))))) but what can we do.. we got into this.. we gotta do it oh myy haha

we surely gotta check on that Doctor Sleep for sure. but man... 140 times.. oh boy. that's deep and what a dedication

ok Misery is the title?? if so we would check it out. thank you for ur suggestion

i already imagine it... reading the book.. the electricity goes off.. and i use a candle... then start to question my existence haha

You may be interested in reading Stephen King’s book, The Shining. It is different than the movie. Stephen King hated what the filmmakers (screenwriters) did with his book. Another book of his, Misery, was made into a very good film. I recommend it. It is not really horror and doesn’t have the horrible music.

Tracy Frazier

See? I told you it wasn't that scary. 😁Great reaction! Yes, you must see "Doctor Sleep"! 👌

Mr. Writhms

Oh my... 140 times??? 😩 😩 So bad... Crazy when u think about it. We gotta watch the Dr sleep now cuz u made us curious 😂😂😂

Thanks for watching! I always come back to this every now and then to enjoy the atmosphere. You should check out Doctor Sleep, which is the sequel and a great movie as well. One fun fact (or not so fun fact). Stanley Kubrick made Shelly Duvall perform the scenes on the stairs with the bat something like 140 times, which is why she looks so exhausted and weak in the final take.

really??? ohhh boy we gotta watch that for suree!!!

"Game over with this. Why did I watch this?" -Marian. LOL This reaction was awesome. You guys are awesome. And there is a very good sequel. Doctor Sleep (2019). It will explain a lot.
