ofcourse! those animals are not meant to wipe or annihilate an entire specie. they hunt only for food as much as they need. they wouldn't risk injuries or stamina to hunt for sport like humans do. in the wild a wound could be lethal if is serious. same goes with sharks.. i was reading an article that bcuz Sharks got very inferior numbers... Dolphins were attacking them more often.. since they can't really fight back... mainly bcuz Dolphins behave like a mamal.. and will fight for territories but in the same time ''assume the danger'' they will fight sometimes for no reason.. in a way they have some traits as humans.. there was incidents that Dolphins rape Seals... just bcuz they can.. scary stuff i tell u

Yeah I've never understood the attitude that some people have about apex predators....like when they claim to respect them but then the only way they can show their respect is by hunting and killing them?? It makes no sense to me By sheer coincidence, the number of tigers left in the wild is about the same number of great white sharks left in the oceans >.< Tigers are such gorgeous animals, perfectly evolved to have the right 'tools' to be the top predators they are. Must have been absolutely nerve wracking to be next to one. I'd feel very small...but at the same time, kind of honored to be able to share the same space with one, if that makes any sense

Now that it doesn't scare me anymore, I love watching it....both to see how other people react to it, and to appreciate it myself for what it is

oh my!! that is a scary event and intrigued in the same time! i feel the same way with Tigers. always thought that Lions are the most deadly cats alive.. but when i study the Tiger who weights way more than a lion.. specially the siberian one.. i had a chance to touch one and my heart was racing but i kept my cool.. like can you imagine those creatures are next to you and they can kill you in a blink of an eye?? like a that Shark u just mentioned.. he could easily rip u to pieces... that Tiger could snap my nack. but in the same time when you think that, they only kill to survive.. i admire them. unlike people who kill for sport..

just found out!! is terrifiyng to think is true

The USS Indianapolis story is true

Jaws did manage to spark my interest in sharks lol (Here's me being chatty again) I hit a milestone birthday two years ago and went with my mother and younger sisters down to Georgia, which has the largest aquarium exhibit in the western hemisphere. They have 20 minute diving/snorkling tickets where you can actually get in their giantass shark tank and swim around with them. Lemon sharks, reef sharks, sand tiger sharks.....and three whale sharks, so that's what we did. I suited up, got in the water......and forgot all about Jaws. We weren't allowed to touch the sharks, but could get as close to the whale sharks as we felt like getting, which was a good thing, considering that one of them swam right into me and took me for a *very brief* ride. I sort of bounced off its head and skidded down its back and rolled off....technically the shark touched ME, and there wasn't anything in the rules about THAT... For a 30 ft ( 9 m) long animal that weighs several TONS it was surprisingly stealthy. It snuck right up on me, and I didn't even notice it until it smacked into me. I don't think it noticed ME at all. They're beautiful, deadly, awe-inspiring creatures that deserve our respect.....even if they can terrify the absolute hell out of us on occasion :) Poor Quint, man....what a way to go....

We agree!! Freaking worst feeling 🀣🀣🀣

Haha! Tracy we got so scared on the scene with dead body underwater haha

Oh wow!! Alyson thank for all the insights about Sharks! Indeed they aren't as dangerous as the movie present them.. But oh boy the Indianapolis U S.S. incident is scary!! I was thinking if it was true or not Regarding the author, i think he felt really bad for portrait the sharks as maneaters... People when ham on them after that.. and is sad.. bcuz Sharks are like wolves of the seas . They keep the ecosystem in balance.. good thing that he dedicated his life to conserve this amazing swimming beast

That underwater jump scare is one of the best jump scares ever made. XD

I’ve seen this movie several times, but you guys scared me with your screaming. That was fun!😬

Interesting trivia: Tiger sharks (the one they caught and displayed on the dock) are notoriously aggressive and have the second highest attack fatality rate. That was the species of shark that took off Bethany Hamilton's arm. The story Quint tells about the U.S.S. Indianapolis is true. Only 316 sailors survived out of almost 2000 other crew. The "official" number of guesstimated death-by-shark is 150. Oceanic white tips are in the same family as Great Whites The movie is very loosely based on an actual event, the Mattawan attacks in 1917. 4 people were killed, 2 of which were upstream in a freshwater pond. (one was a kid) They never caught the actual shark, Marine biologists today say that it was probably a bull shark, as only two kinds of shark are capable of swimming in freshwater. At the time, people guessed it was a great white. It didn't get much press coverage because there was a World War going on, followed by the Spanish flu. Sharks in general and great whites in particular really took a beating after this movie came out. They were misrepresented as man eating murderdemons, and slaughtered by the *millions*. This horrified Peter Benchley, the author of the book Jaws, and he became an activist advocate for them, and devoted the rest of his life to shark conservation. There are only about 3000 great whites left, which is about 24 percent of what their population was pre-Jaws. They're an endangered/protected species now, and it is illegal to hunt them. Contrary to what the movie says, great whites are generally not maneaters. Humans have way too many bones and not near enough calories to make killing us worthwhile. Most attacks are caused by mistaken identity, or curiosity. Just like small children, if they see something interesting, they go and investigate. The problem with that is while small children have hands to investigate things with, sharks do not. They have to investigate with their mouths. They give "test bites" to see if the interesting thing they found is edible or not. Unfortunately for us, great whites are huge, hulking toothy beasts with extremely sharp teeth, so a 'test bite' from a great white can be catastrophic.... Quint's estimate of the shark being 25 feet long is a bit of an exaggeration. The average great white shark is 15 feet, with the females being the larger of the species. One of the largest great whites on record is a female named Deep Blue, with an estimated length of 23 feet. When they were filming the cage scene, they intercut the footage of Bruce (Spielberg named the mechanical shark Bruce after his lawyer....) with footage of real sharks. They used a Little Person in a smaller cage to make the real sharks look the same size as Bruce. One of them actually did get caught on top of the cage and start flailing, and he left it in the movie. /ramble
