State of the Shadow, March 19th
Added 2024-03-19 17:21:43 +0000 UTCThis week I put WWE 2k24 aside and dove heavily back into game development. I won't list every single change or new bit of content here to avoid spoilers, but here's some of the majors.
The daytime storyline is now playable end-to-end. The final sequence with Cthulhu is incomplete because I haven't added any scenes involving the other Old Ones, but I wanted to nail down Cthulhu since we may be recording his voice acting soon. He'll be voiced by the incomparable Jacob Burgess, aka Matt from Arcade Spirits and voice director.
Nyarlathotep and Dagon's nighttime scenes are also complete! So that leaves Hastur, Azathoth, and Yog-Sothoth to do. That's a lot of work, though -- about eight full dialogue scenes each, with associated web pages.
As for the rest of the items...
- Fixed reported bugs in existing content!
- Fully implemented Living Room and Kitchen. All four rooms of the house are done!
- Waffle maker is installed correctly (arrives the day after you order it). I decided not to allow the player to skip the waffle maker -- otherwise I'd need alternative art of every scene that happens in the kitchen and honestly, who isn't gonna buy the waffle maker?
- Tuned down Sorrow #3's volume a bit (the music box track).
- Added missing TV23 videos. (The last one is a BANGER.)
- Fixed a bug involving the names of your save games.
- Added a better thumbnail for nightly save games.
- Most (not all) visions and hallucinations in the daytime storyline are done.
What's left to do?
- Azathoth, Hastur, and Yog-Sothoth's discussion scenes.
- "azalol" visual effects
- cute kitten pictures
- The TV23 web search, to close out that storyline. (Gotta do subtitles for all of them and additional narration for VI mode, though.)
- Burndown Army web search (unlocked by Nyarlathotep, was an oversight)
- Some visions / hallucinations
- Voice acting for Cthulhu, the Caller, Clyde, your sister, Henry, and others.
I'd estimate the game is a little under halfway complete! The next build should be far more playable, even if big chunks of the story are still MIA. I can't give a release date because there's still a lot to do and I'm wrangling day job stuff perpetually... but it's nice to know we are solidly underway and this is a question of when, not if.
