Because the original novel is the slowest slow burn (and told from oblivious Wei WuXian's perspective who wouldn't notice romantic feelings if they stared right at him), most of the story doesn't happen that much romantic (but when it does, it goes from 0 to 100 so quickly that it left me in shock because I didn't expect more than a kiss, perhaps, but that's not the point of my comment, I just wanted to still promise you a good time reading it), so the censored version of the story isn't much different than the original. On the contrary, because they are unable to express all of their emotions in steamy sex scenes at the end, the show is many times much more romantic than the novel is (especially in the past flashback).

Let's just say that the Lan headband can have many uses I bet the Lan's elders didn't intend it to have when they invented it, and Lan WangJi loves having Wei WuXian restrained. Even in the censored Dongua (Chinese anime) adaptation, drunk Lan WangJi binds Wei WuXian's hands with his headband; I'm not sure how that got past the censors. 😄
