What's really interesting about Ed's 'kill' in ep1 is that it looks like a completely cold-blooded execution—but if you look closer the guy was already collapsing with a sword clean through his chest. By the time the bullet hit he might have very well already been dead and if not it was basically a mercy kill...
Ed couldn't have picked a better person to shoot to make it look like he's killing people without, you know, actually killing people...
It also is really obvious how much of his behavior in the first two episodes is basically—surely, this next thing will make them kill me, right?
Even him being in a cheerful mood at the beginning of the episode is textbook relief because he's sure it will be over soon now.
Most of Zheng's fleet is still in the Pacific and since going around South America is a really dangerous and long journey, they are basically pulling the ships across what would eventually be the Panama canal.
Which has been attempted historically though I don't remember if anyone managed.
Also, on rewatching it really stands out how everyone on the Revenge in ep1&2 is trauma bonding after Blackbeard 'inexplicably' went from healthy breakup coping with marmalade and emo lyrics to full kraken spiral and Izzy is just standing there going 'Yes, we're totally in this together. Everything is fucked because of Stede Bonnet. I'm a great friend to Edward. So odd he keeps physically lashing out at me specifically.'

So glad you mentioned Deadloch! I was going to suggest you watch it if you hadn't seen it already. I doubt there are many OFMD fans who haven't seen it, but if there are any of you out there, I highly recommend you check it out!
