Reacting to MUSIC by Madonna!

Seriously!!! Paradise!? It’s a masterpiece! Yizz!!!! Ok, calm down… let’s wait until you watch the video music for that song on one of the backgrounds of the Drowned World Tour and… I know for sure you’re gonna love the Confessions Tour Version of “Paradise (Not for me)” when you get to it.

Music really an experimental album. It was the turn of the century and Madonna wanted to explore the more Euro continental electronic sound. She also wanted to do something different from what she did with Ray of Light. Here’s a hot take… The Village Voice’s storied music critic Robert Christgau, who is known for his strong opinions, didn’t like Ray of Light because he said it made her seem matronly and celebrated Madonna’s return to fun with Music. It really does show you how subjective music can be. I guarantee you’ll end up at least appreciating the intent behind “Paradise (Is Not for Me)” by the Drowned World tour/video at the earliest and by the Confessions Tour at the latest. It’s not mainstream, but there’s no way AI could make something with that much intention. It’s a mood song capturing intense introverted pain.

Music is prob in my top 5 for all of her projects. It’s tough on a first listen, because it is quite.. weird - especially after the lush production of Ray Of Light. The first time I listened to it, I remember I found it very jarring. It was experimental and there was nothing else at the time that sounded anything like it. But I find albums like that usually age better, because they’re so unique. Music still feels fresh today because it was SO ahead of its time when it came out. I’m super interested to hear your thoughts on the album after you’ve had some time with it. I think you’ll be surprised with how much it grows on you once you get used to the sound of it. As for Paradise, it really is a gem. It’s strange and haunting and heartbreaking, but at the same time it has a mystery to it. It sounds profound. Not really sure how to explain it. I hope the song reveals itself to you eventually. 🤍
