Also this album is significant because it catapulted Madonna into a megastar. She was worldwide famous at this point. But it was also the start of the Madonna Re-invention or the "eras" that she pioneered in pop music where she completely changed her look/sound for every album. For this era she was inspired by Marilyn Monroe and Jean Seberg.

2025-01-16 20:58:57 +0000 UTCGreat reaction! I agree about the cohesion of the record. Feels a bit mixed to me. But the album was dedicated to her then-husband Sean Penn. True Blue references his favorite color. So that explains the kind of girlish happy love songs on the second half of the album.
