REACTSMAS DAY 3: Control by Janet Jackson

HAPPY DECEMBER 3rd! I feel like you guys can guess how I felt about this before watching...need to watch the MVs and live performances to really "get" this one, I think. Let me know your thoughts!

REACTSMAS DAY 3: Control by Janet Jackson

I definitely need to jump back in! I will try this week!

I can't wait for your next Janet reaction.

Jami B.

It's a matter of being willing to relax and just flow with the groove. I know that's not everyone's style, but this kind of album is made for that temperament and mindset.

I would suggest you did the Control music videos next before moving on to her next album ........ while you have the songs fresh in your head it may make sense to see the visuals for this era ..... The video order goes, What Have You Done For Me Lately, Nasty, When I Think Of You, Control, Lets Wait Awhile, Pleasure Principle ...... just a suggestion IMO ..... the live perfomances from this era that spring to mind for me are Control from the 1987 AMA awards and What You Done For Me Lately from the 87 Grammys .....

Even though I was alive during her first few albums, I was too young to know any of the music besides, what was on the radio, but when ‘Janet’ was released it had a completely different sound than any of this 80s dance music. That’s when I became a huge fan and bought every album from then on.

It went on too long...it's not a tik tok thing, you're right; back then, either you were whiling away the hours on the dance floor of a club with the DJ spinning, or the radio was background and the soundtrack of your life 24/7, so time was not being measured, and the context, and the times have shifted.

The tracks on this album are not songs. They are JAM SESSIONS. This is just as much about the music as it is about the singing. You gotta just sink into the groove and let it go… it’s definitely not for everyone. But man I love getting lost in these tracks even without visuals.

Powder Blue

oh girl you have no idea how nasty Janet can get 🤣🤭

Trey

The high note at the end of "He doesn't know I'm alive" is Janet actually singing 🎶😅

I didn’t care for this album first listen either, it’s definitely a grower. I loved rhythm nation, the velvet rope, and all for you first listen tho. Maybe you’ll like those albums.
